Several football coaches in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced flak for allegedly demanding Rs 4.5 lakh per player from parents with the promise of international tours to Qatar and other countries. The actions have alerted the parents who have termed the coaches as exploiters who are using their children's aspirations to play abroad to earn money. Concerned parents have approached the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Football Association and the Olympic Association for help. The international tours were reportedly pitched as a great opportunity for young players by the coaches, but excessive charges have left a deep financial burden on many families. Parents are complaining about the fact that while they encourage their children to pursue positive activities such as football, the financial demands by the coaches are making it difficult for them to sustain their children's passion for football. In response, parents are asking the provincial sports authorities to come up with strict policie...

Peshawar's 16 Girls' Colleges: A Disastrous State of Sports – Only Five Colleges Participate

In Peshawar district, there are around sixteen girls' colleges that supposedly offer sports admissions every year, with a Director of Physical Education tasked with promoting sports and bringing in athletes. Yet, shockingly, only five colleges participated in the recent inter-district hockey competitions, and many of the players were not even hockey athletes, but participants from other sports. This situation is nothing short of a scandal. Despite these colleges claiming to offer sports programs and the salaries of grade 17 officers funded by public taxes, no serious action is being taken to develop athletes. If only five colleges have active athletes, then the question must be asked: how are sports admissions being conducted in the other colleges? Is this a mere facade? The following are the girls' colleges in Peshawar, where sports admissions are supposedly being made: Govt. City Girls College, Gulbahar Peshawar City District Govt Degree College for Women, Pesh...

This unequal treatment has sparked discontent among the DSOs. Sources within the provincial sports directorate reveal that even some officials from merged districts and the directorate itself, who are only in grade 16, have been provided with official vehicles, while DSOs, who are often in higher grades, have been overlooked. DSOs, who requested anonymity, expressed their frustration: "We are forced to bear the financial burden of using our personal vehicles, effectively paying our salaries as rent. It's disheartening to see such blatant favoritis...

The center has become unaffordable to ordinary athletes due to recent increases in fees. Volleyball players from the Provincial Sports Directorate used to practice at PSB Peshawar Center, but steep fees forced them to quit. Badminton players too have stopped coming there for the same reason. Once a hive of activity, the Mohib Ullah Khan Squash Academy now stands closed after a hike in fees was imposed there. Supposedly anomalous financial reporting by Tehmas Khan Football Ground Income-Expenditure Statement Raise Eyebrows

Peshawar: The financial management at Tehmas Khan Football Ground has come under question following an inspection of income and expenditure books. The Directorate of Sports Office, Peshawar provided a statement for the year 2022-23 which covered extra long reporting period from May 2022 to October 2023. The normal financial year is July to June, but this report covers May 2022 to October 2023. The anomaly is not only against the conventional accounting norms but also gives an impression that the reporting has been fudged or done with some ulterior motives. The graph of income and expenditure shows a peculiar pattern: the months of lower income are accompanied by the lower expenditure as well but whenever the income increases, so does the expenditure but disproportionately so. For example: May 2022: Income Rs. 3,000 and expenditure Rs. 3,120 or net loss of Rs. 120. August 2022: Income and expenditure at Rs. 39,200 and Rs. 34,655 or net surplus of Rs. 4,545. Febr...

Without proper rate analysis or approvals, this discrepancy raises questions about the expenditure. The item, however, was reportedly neither provided nor installed as the structural work of the gymnasium extension was still underway. Weak internal controls have been identified as a key ...
