DSOs in KP Face Injustice: Lack of Vehicles Hinders Sports Development
District Sports Officers (DSOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are grappling with a serious issue that is hindering their ability to effectively supervise and manage sports activities across the province: the lack of official vehicles. While some DSOs, often those in higher positions, have access to official vehicles, the majority are left to fend for themselves, forced to use their personal vehicles to reach remote sports grounds.
This unequal treatment has sparked discontent among the
DSOs. Sources within the provincial sports directorate reveal that even some
officials from merged districts and the directorate itself, who are only in
grade 16, have been provided with official vehicles, while DSOs, who are often
in higher grades, have been overlooked.
DSOs, who requested anonymity, expressed their frustration:
"We are forced to bear the financial burden of using our personal
vehicles, effectively paying our salaries as rent. It's disheartening to see
such blatant favoritism." They emphasized the need for either official
vehicles or adequate fuel allowances to fulfill their duties efficiently.
This issue not only undermines the morale of DSOs but also
hampers the overall development of sports in KP. When sports officers are
compelled to spend their own money to carry out their responsibilities, it
highlights a systemic flaw.
While the Director General of Sports, Abdul Nasir Khan,
acknowledged the issue, his response was insufficient. He stated that most DSOs
have vehicles, but failed to address the concerns regarding fuel allowances and
the timeline for providing vehicles to the remaining DSOs.
It is imperative that the KP government takes immediate
action to rectify this injustice and provide DSOs with the necessary resources
to effectively serve the province's sports community.
