Bannu District Sports Association Demands Transparency and Accountability in Sports Funding

Musarrat Ullah Jan – KikxNow digital crator   A significant meeting of the Bannu District Sports Association (DSA) was held today, chaired by Muhammad Israr Bangash , to discuss critical issues facing local sports and emphasize the need for transparency in funding. The meeting saw the attendance of presidents, secretaries, and representatives from numerous sports associations, including Hockey, Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Judo, Boxing, Karate, Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Handball, Target, Chuck Ball, Kabaddi, Lawn Tennis, and Athletics. The agenda focused on three key points: Deliberating on challenges faced by various sports and their potential solutions. Highlighting the identity and status of the Bannu District Sports Association. Developing a comprehensive plan to resolve issues concerning Qazi Muhib Ground, the Boxing Ring, Badminton Courts, and the Sports Complex. Crucially, the participants unanimously passed several important res...

While Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Burned, the Chief Minister Played Cricket

Musarrat Ullah Jan – KikxNow digital crator Chief Minister Sohail Afridi recently attended the Media Cricket League — cheerful, smiling, and proud to say, “I’m happy to be part of the journalists’ program.” Then, in a flash of passion, he declared, “For the last twenty years, decisions have been made behind closed doors without taking us into confidence.” The statement drew chuckles from reporters. After all, if we pull out the calculator, PTI has been ruling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2013 — that’s thirteen years. Add the seven years before that, and you get twenty. So who exactly was making those “closed-door” decisions? Because if twenty years is the timeline, most of that belongs to PTI itself. The irony is thicker than the Khyber fog. Let's break it down: Before Sohail Afridi, it was Ali Amin Gandapur, then Mahmood Khan and then Pervez Khattak - all on the same PTI flag. So if decisions were wrong then the chief minister was basically pointing fingers at his own predeces...

Haryanabala’s Champions and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sleeping Sports System

Musarrat Ullah Jan – KikxNow digital crator In a dusty corner of Peshawar stands a government school — Government Higher Secondary School Haryanabala — where students have rewritten the definition of sportsmanship without a playground, gym, or proper shoes. In the Peshawar District Sports Gala 2025, these boys swept the field, defeating schools with far better facilities. They won eight first positions and four second positions, turning the entire event into a lesson for our sports bureaucracy: talent doesn’t live in files or funds, it breathes in forgotten classrooms. But while these kids were sweating it out in the sun, somewhere in a cozy air-conditioned office, the sports department was busy preparing “policy drafts” — the kind that look great on PowerPoint but do nothing on the ground. The students of Haryanabala train on broken grounds. Their relay baton is often a stick, their running shoes borrowed or worn out. Still, they dominate every race they enter. Meanwhile, ...

PTVC Faces Rs 1.397 Billion Loss Due to Non-Recovery from Sports Broadcasts

Karachi: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) suffered a massive Rs 1,397.885 million loss in the financial year 2023–24 due to non-recovery of dues from advertising agencies for sports programs aired on its PTV Sports channel. According to the audit report, management failed to ensure timely collection of bills and did not forward default cases to the Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) , resulting in the accumulation of outstanding payments. Several major events, including the Hero Men’s Asian Champion Trophy 2023 (Field Hockey), English Premier League 2023–24, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 , contributed to this loss as agencies did not clear their dues. The report also highlighted that PTVC management did not provide proper documentation such as bank statements, cheques, or invoices to support recovery claims. The audit flagged this as a clear indication of weak internal controls and stressed that immediate steps are needed to recover the dues. Audit Recomme...

PTVC Faces Rs 8.7 Million Loss Over Unauthorized Bonuses for ICC T20 World Cup

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) awarded Rs 8.7 million in bonuses to 19 officers, including the Managing Director, following the successful broadcast of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 , an audit report has revealed. Each officer, including the MD, received two months’ basic pay as a bonus, in clear violation of financial rules and directives from the Prime Minister. According to the report, Finance Division approval and consent from the relevant administrative ministry were required before issuing any such bonuses. The audit deemed the payments irregular and unjustified , especially considering that PTVC had already suffered significant losses from several sports broadcasts during 2023–24 and had billions of rupees outstanding from advertising agencies. Management defended the decision, stating that the Managing Director was authorized within the powers delegated by the Board of Directors , but the audit rejected this explanation, emphasizing that t...

PTVC Misses FIFA World Cup 2022 Media Rights, Suffers Millions in Losses

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) failed to acquire the media rights for FIFA World Cup 2022 for Pakistan, resulting in losses worth millions of rupees, according to an audit report. The process for acquiring media rights began in September–October 2021 through the regional rights holder M/s Viacom-18 and concluded in May 2022 , with M/s A-Sports successfully securing the rights. Despite previously broadcasting all matches of FIFA World Cups 2014 and 2018, PTVC showed limited interest and did not act decisively, depriving itself of potential advertising revenue and denying a significant portion of the population the opportunity to watch the global event. The audit report attributed the failure to the negligence of the then Director of Sports & Syndication, Dr. Nauman Niaz, and the Chief Organizer Sports, Mr. Osma Azhar , who were responsible for pursuing the rights. The audit also noted that no action has been taken against the responsible officials, ...

KP Sports, Political Ambition, and the Art of Paperwork

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow digital creator The elections for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association are due in January 2026, and a familiar theatrical rhythm has resumed. Crisscrossing the province, a number of sports associations have started stirring, their preparations unfolding in offices and living rooms and, most probably, in daydreams. Sources say this year will be unusually colorful, with several prominent figures—until now known only in political circles—looking to make an entry into the sporting arena. But herein lies the farcical truth: where election activity has been high, practical preparation is minimal. The only game in town is the "currency game." Since 2020, following the COVID-19 pandemic, not one association has received grants, aid, or substantive support from the KP government. Sports lovers and associations are thus thrown into the role of self-funded heroes, trying to keep the athletic flame alight without a rupee of official assistance. ...

Pakistani Cricketer Muhammad Irfan Junior Suspended for Ball Tampering in Australia

Musarrat Ulalh  Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator Pakistani first-class cricketer Muhammad Irfan Junior has been handed a five-match suspension in Australia after being found guilty of ball tampering. The penalty was imposed by the Cricket Victoria Tribunal following a breach during a Victorian Premier Premiership match. Irfan Junior, a former WAPDA player who has also represented various Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises, was accused of deliberately altering the condition of the ball's surface to gain an illegal advantage, a technique used to assist swing bowling. This action is classified as a Level 3 offence under the rules of conduct. Umpires noted the ball’s unnatural state, and a subsequent investigation, relying on video evidence and the match report, led to the guilty verdict. Irfan Junior had pleaded innocence, claiming the act was unintentional. While the ban is confined to Australian domestic cricket, the incident has drawn sharp criticism and revived the...

The Bahrain Games: Athletes Deliver Medals, Officials Evade the Financial Scoreboard

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The 2025 Asian Youth Games starkly illuminated a core failure in Pakistani sports: the profound courage and commitment of its young athletes tragically undermined by the systemic corruption and financial secrecy of its institutions. Pakistan's modest three-medal tally—a Silver in Volleyball, plus Bronze medals in Kabaddi and Wrestling—was achieved through sheer personal will, despite being hampered by limited resources and institutional neglect. The most glaring injustice is the financial fog that engulfs the mission's expenditure. While a massive 53-member official delegation attended the Games, reports confirm that some athletes were forced to pay for their own travel and airfare. This revelation strongly suggests that substantial public funds were diverted away from essential player welfare—such as proper training, nutrition, and equipment—to finance a large, and possibly unnecessary, contingent of officials and managers. ...

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority Partners with University of Peshawar to Launch Tourism and Hospitality Courses

In Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) and the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Peshawar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration and promote professional training in tourism and hospitality across the province. During the signing ceremony, Secretary of Tourism and Culture Dr. Abdul Samad emphasized that the university should develop short, practical courses alongside hotel management programs to ensure that young students can benefit from hands-on learning. He added that the tourism industry is not limited to hotel management; it also includes adventure tourism, forest tourism, hospitality, tour guiding, travel guiding, and other related sectors. Dr. Abdul Samad also noted that Pakistan’s service industry is still developing, which often causes challenges for tourists. A well-trained youth workforce can help fill this gap and improve the overall quality of hospitality services. ...

The Sports Ministry: A White Elephant's Tale of Neglect and Paper Progress

Musarrat UllahJan – KikxNow , digital Creator Another quarter dawns, but for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Ministry, it seems little has changed beyond the calendar. As the first quarter of 2025-26 (July-September) fades into memory and October ushers in a new fiscal cycle, a critical question hangs in the air: Was there genuine progress in the realm of sports, or merely an illusion of "activities" meticulously crafted on paper? The time for introspection is long overdue for the Ministry of Sports and its affiliated departments. Four months have elapsed, yet the stark reality across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reveals a grim picture: the engine of sports is either sputtering to a halt or being steered in an entirely wrong direction. How many Assistant District Sports Officers (ADSOs) are truly engaged in their duties? How many District Sports Officers (DSOs) are at their assigned posts, rather than "temporarily" occupying other positions where "o...

Three Years Have Passed. But the "Mini Sports Complex" is Still Just a

Musarrat Ullah  Jan- Kikxnow Digital Creator Every day, the sun rises over Peshawar; the school bell rings, and the children stand in lines to sing their national anthem. The sports ground of Government Higher Secondary School No. 1 Peshawar City looks the same: it's empty, colourless, and waits for the day when it might finally get converted into a "Mini Sports Complex." This is the very project that was dreamt of in 2022. The dream wasn't of an ordinary person, it was of the school's principal and the then-General Secretaries of the Schools Sports Tournament, Naveed Akhtar and Kaleem Masood. They sent a request with high hopes to the Chairman of BISE Peshawar and the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, proposing that the school ground be developed into a modern "Mini Sports Complex" complete with a gymnasium, court, ground, and a 400-meter track. Three years have passed. The land remains the same, the grass remains the same, the drea...

India, Pakistan, and Olympic Politics: A Serious Truth with a Hint of Humor

Musarrat Ullah  Jan- Kikxnow Digital Creator India has once again decided to play against Pakistan in the game of sports diplomacy, and this at a time when the IOC has levied sanctions over Indonesia's Israeli visa scandal. The first thought that comes to one's mind is: how has India turned sports into a political stage, and now are the players on the field or the diplomats at the table? First, it’s important to understand that India’s Ministry of Sports shows no shame in supporting competition against Pakistan. It claims the Olympic Charter allows them to prevent any country from playing “for racial, religious, or political reasons.” That’s like saying, “We’ll invite you—but only if you don’t criticize us or bring your government’s policies into it.” It is a fact that after the Pulwama attacks, India broke off bilateral relations with Pakistan. The surprise element is the decision of India to continue with “multilateral competitions.” This simply means that if there i...

Three Years On, No Progress on Mini Sports Complex Proposal for Govt. Higher Secondary School No.1 Peshawar City

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator A proposal to convert the sports ground of Government Higher Secondary School No.1 Peshawar City into a “Mini Sports Complex” remains unimplemented even after three years. The request, originally submitted in 2022 by Principal GHS Nanak Pura and General Secretary of Schools Sports Tournament, Naveed Akhter, was addressed to the Chairman of BISE Peshawar through the Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The proposal emphasized the importance of co-curricular and sports activities as a vital part of education, noting that such initiatives are essential for the overall development of students. It highlighted that due to the shortage of sports grounds in Peshawar, students of elementary and secondary schools are deprived of opportunities to participate in healthy physical activities and showcase their talents. The letter suggested developing the existing school sports ground into a modern Mi...

District Sports Association Bannu Calls for Accountability and Reform in Local Sports Management

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator A crucial meeting of the District Sports Association Bannu was held today under the chairmanship of Muhammad Israr Bangash. Representatives and presidents from various sports associations — including hockey, football, cricket, volleyball, judo, boxing, karate, gymnastics, martial arts, handball, target shooting, chuck ball, kabaddi, lawn tennis, and athletics — attended the session. The meeting focused on three main agenda points: Addressing and resolving issues faced by different sports disciplines. Promoting the identity and recognition of the District Sports Association Bannu. Developing a comprehensive plan to resolve problems at Qazi Mohib Ground, Boxing Ring, Badminton Courts, and the Sports Complex, and ensuring responsible officials take necessary action. Several key resolutions were passed during the meeting. Members decided to formally request the Deputy Commissioner Bannu to ensure that when funds are released fo...

Government Higher Secondary School Haryanah Bala Secures Spot in Tug of War Semi-Finals

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator In the ongoing inter-school sports competitions among government high and higher secondary schools of Peshawar, Government Higher Secondary School Haryanah Bala continued its winning tradition by qualifying for the semi-finals in the tug of war event. A thrilling match took place today at Government Higher Secondary School No. 1, Peshawar City, between teams from Wadpagga and Haryanah Bala. The students of Haryanah Bala displayed excellent teamwork and strength, comfortably winning the contest and booking their place in the semi-finals. Last year’s unbeaten team remains undefeated in this tournament as well, reflecting the players’ high morale and strong preparation. Teachers and students expressed joy over the team’s success and hoped that Haryanah Bala would once again reach the finals and lift the championship title. #Kikxnow #PeshawarSports #SchoolGames #TugOfWar #HaryanahBala #KPYouth #SportsNews #StudentSpirit #KhyberPakh...

Peshawar's Broken Track: When Promises Replace Progress

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator Peshawar's athletes have trained on concrete for nearly four years. Not on a running track, not even on a proper field, just bare cement. The once-vaunted athletics ground of the Peshawar Sports Complex has now become a mute witness to administrative apathy and misplaced priorities. The missing tartan track, which was to have been completed last August, is still missing. Instead, there are repeated statements of intent, missed deadlines, and sustained official silence. What should be an athletic facility has now become just another example of how inaction masquerading as “process” can destroy sports development through bureaucracy. The athletes who come to train every morning do so out of passion and not because the system supports them. The feet are subjected to concrete surfaces that burn in summer and crack in winter. Coaches warn of long-term physical damage, but no one from above is heeding a word. Running on cement leads to...

The Silent Fields of Lakki Marwat: A Tale of Dreams Deferred

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The air in Lakki Marwat hung thick with the unfulfilled potential of its youth. For a district whose population numbered over a million, with a staggering 33.22% (344,296 children) under the age of ten, and a vast 90.10% rural population, sports weren't just a pastime—they were a vital artery for development and engagement. Yet, the official records painted a stark picture of neglect. Following the approval of the Deputy Commissioner, a total of Rs 3,251,500 was disbursed to the office. However, when the allocation breakdown was scrutinized, a frustrating reality emerged: a paltry Rs 50,000 was specifically earmarked for the actual promotion and development of sports. This figure was a slap in the face to the experts and local athletes. The actual required amount for sports development was Rs 150,500. This left a glaring shortfall of Rs 49,500 that had not been released. Adding to the confusion and concern was the offi...

Khyber District: Sports Funds Limited, Youth Opportunities for Development at Risk

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The District Sports Office, Khyber, has received limited funds for the development of sports since its approval by the Deputy Commissioner. The amended budget reflected an original estimation of PKR 10,798,350, with a final budget balance of PKR 8,751,717. The released amount amounts to PKR 2,912,839, while the total expenditure stands at PKR 2,346,633, which leaves the balance of the released amount at PKR 566,206. This was exclusively for sports promotion. Additionally, there is another appropriation for sports development for PKR 2,400,000, and the final budget balance is PKR 1,800,116. The released amount against this is PKR 1,200,000; PKR 899,884 was utilized, and PKR 300,116 remains unspent. Experts and local athletes are questioning how the youth can engage in positive sports activities if funds are not released properly, and who will be held accountable. The situation depicts that the Khyber District Sports Office adminis...

Charsadda: Limited Sports Funds in 2025–26 Leave Youth Opportunities at Risk

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The total budget allocated for sports development for Charsadda District’s Sports Office was PKR 60,227,360 for the year 2025-26; however, PKR 8,570,560 was actually released. Accordingly, official records showed a total expenditure of PKR 17,316,116, leaving no remaining balance from the released funds. Further, another PKR 3,000,000 allocated for sports promotion was almost fully utilized with a release of PKR 3,250,000 and nearly all spent. Experts and locals are questioning how the youth can engage in positive sports if funds are not being released on time transparently. This has proved that the administration at the District Sports Office is not bothering about the importance of sports. Charsadda District Demographics and Youth (2023 Census): Total Population: 1,835,504 Literacy Rate: 53.94% (Male: 66.55%, Female: 40.36%) Urban Population: 292,426 (15.93%) Population under 10 years old: 542,879 (29.58%) Experts obs...

Shangla: Limited Sports Budget Affects Youth Development Opportunities

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The total budget for the development of sports in the Shangla District's Sports Office was PKR 5,734,722. Only PKR 2,488,878 was released. Records show that an amount of -458,778 PKR was expended, indicating discrepancies in the use of funds. Out of PKR 915,300 allocated specifically for sports promotion, PKR 284,700 was spent, leaving PKR 15,300 unutilized. Sports experts and local people raise questions regarding the engagement of youth in positive activities sans transparent use of funds on time. The situation manifests the fact that the administration of the Shangla District Sports Office is inactive and neglecting the importance of sports. Shangla District Population (2023 Census): Total Population: 891,252 Indeed, experts point out that since the district has a young population, opportunities regarding sports should be promoted, but since there is limited funding and poor management, youth are not being given a way to c...

Abbottabad: Full Sports Funds Released, but Per Capita Investment Remains Limited

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator Abbottabad District’s Regional Sports Office was allocated a total budget of PKR 12,058,320 for the fiscal year 2025–26, of which PKR 6,006,923 was released and PKR 6,051,397 recorded as expenditure. For sports promotion specifically, PKR 3,975,000 was allocated and fully spent. However, given the district’s total population of 1,397,587, the per-person investment for sports programs amounts to just PKR 2.84, raising concerns about the adequacy of funding for meaningful youth development activities. Experts and local residents have expressed concern that due to this low level of investment, youth in the district are unable to fully engage in positive sports activities, and opportunities for participation remain limited. Abbottabad District covers an area of 1,967 square kilometers and includes two tehsils—Abbottabad and Havelian. The district has an urban population of approximately 22% and a literacy rate of 69%, highlighting ...

Pakistan Cricket Board and Islamabad Club: A Critical Examination of Financial and Administrative Mismanagement

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Islamabad Club—two institutions whose very names bring to mind cricket and old-fashioned club tradition—are, by recent audit reports, embroiled in financial mismanagement and legal loopholes. Though the official function of these institutions is to offer recreation and sporting facilities to the members and the public, the reports identify that they occasionally play a sort of "funds juggling act" where millions and billions of rupees float about in a queer manner. As per the audit report, PCB remitted around PKR 5.529 million to the Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA) from 2012 to 2019 for the Diamond Cricket Ground despite the fact that the agreement explicitly mentioned that the ground should be made available to PCB on a free-of-cost basis. The audit terms this payment as illegal and an evident display of administrative negligence. PCB asserted that an investigation had already been ca...

To: Director General Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Dear Sir, I hope this message finds you in good health. I am writing with great respect, but I must also bring an issue under your notice regarding the Right to Information (RTI) applications filed for districts such as Peshawar, Kohat, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Tank, Malakand, and Khyber. These applications have been pending for more than three months, and some for over a year. It is confusing that at times it appears that the District Sports Officers (DSOs) indicate they don't have the records, at other times that the records are lost, and at other times it seems that they just don't want to do the work. We can accept excuses, but this cannot continue indefinitely while public funds are not being accounted for. Surprisingly, when these requests were made, the DSOs were around and visible. Even now, some DSOs remain in Peshawar as administrators, yet the responsibility for district-level work seems to have magically disappeared. For example, the DSO of Charsadda is ...
