Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority Partners with University of Peshawar to Launch Tourism and Hospitality Courses

In Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) and the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Peshawar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration and promote professional training in tourism and hospitality across the province.

During the signing ceremony, Secretary of Tourism and Culture Dr. Abdul Samad emphasized that the university should develop short, practical courses alongside hotel management programs to ensure that young students can benefit from hands-on learning. He added that the tourism industry is not limited to hotel management; it also includes adventure tourism, forest tourism, hospitality, tour guiding, travel guiding, and other related sectors.

Dr. Abdul Samad also noted that Pakistan’s service industry is still developing, which often causes challenges for tourists. A well-trained youth workforce can help fill this gap and improve the overall quality of hospitality services.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, Professor Dr. Johar Ali, said that the joint courses would provide students with practical experience and opportunities to grow in their academic and professional careers. He noted that many university students are already gaining field experience in archaeology, museums, and the hotel industry.

Director General of KPCTA, Habibullah Arif, highlighted that tour guides are internationally categorized based on their language skills and expertise. He said that with proper training and well-structured courses in collaboration with the University of Peshawar, the province could develop highly skilled tour guides to serve tourists better.

The MoU is considered a significant step toward promoting tourism and cultural development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, offering young people training opportunities while enhancing the province’s tourism services for the future.
