Abbottabad District’s Regional Sports Office was allocated a
total budget of PKR 12,058,320 for the fiscal year 2025–26, of which PKR
6,006,923 was released and PKR 6,051,397 recorded as expenditure.
For sports promotion specifically, PKR 3,975,000 was allocated
and fully spent. However, given the district’s total population of 1,397,587,
the per-person investment for sports programs amounts to just PKR 2.84, raising
concerns about the adequacy of funding for meaningful youth development
activities.
Experts and local residents have expressed concern that due
to this low level of investment, youth in the district are unable to fully
engage in positive sports activities, and opportunities for participation
remain limited.
Abbottabad District covers an area of 1,967 square
kilometers and includes two tehsils—Abbottabad and Havelian. The district has
an urban population of approximately 22% and a literacy rate of 69%,
highlighting the need to expand sports opportunities to both urban and rural
communities.
