PTVC Faces Rs 8.7 Million Loss Over Unauthorized Bonuses for ICC T20 World Cup

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) awarded Rs 8.7 million in bonuses to 19 officers, including the Managing Director, following the successful broadcast of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024, an audit report has revealed. Each officer, including the MD, received two months’ basic pay as a bonus, in clear violation of financial rules and directives from the Prime Minister.

According to the report, Finance Division approval and consent from the relevant administrative ministry were required before issuing any such bonuses. The audit deemed the payments irregular and unjustified, especially considering that PTVC had already suffered significant losses from several sports broadcasts during 2023–24 and had billions of rupees outstanding from advertising agencies.

Management defended the decision, stating that the Managing Director was authorized within the powers delegated by the Board of Directors, but the audit rejected this explanation, emphasizing that the PM’s directives were explicitly ignored.

Audit Recommendations:

  • Conduct a full administrative investigation into the bonus payments.
  • Review the criteria and approval process for awarding bonuses exclusively to officers.
  • Submit complete financial records related to the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 for audit verification.
  • Recover the irregularly paid bonuses.
