The District Sports Office, Khyber, has received limited funds for the development of sports since its approval by the Deputy Commissioner. The amended budget reflected an original estimation of PKR 10,798,350, with a final budget balance of PKR 8,751,717. The released amount amounts to PKR 2,912,839, while the total expenditure stands at PKR 2,346,633, which leaves the balance of the released amount at PKR 566,206. This was exclusively for sports promotion.
Additionally, there is another appropriation for sports development for PKR 2,400,000, and the final budget balance is PKR 1,800,116. The released amount against this is PKR 1,200,000; PKR 899,884 was utilized, and PKR 300,116 remains unspent.
Experts and local athletes are questioning how the youth can engage in positive sports activities if funds are not released properly, and who will be held accountable. The situation depicts that the Khyber District Sports Office administration is inactive and neglecting the importance of sports.
Demographics of Khyber District (2023):
Total Population: 1,146,267
Urban Population: 94,707 (~8.26%)
Rural Population: 1,051,560 (~91.74%)
Experts note that such a high percentage of young population calls for increased sports opportunities in the district. However, because of limited funding, the youth cannot channel their energies into healthy activities.
