Open Air Gyms… The Mistake Is Accepted, But Who Will Answer for the Loss?

Musarrat Ullah Jan – KikxNow – Digital Creator The decision to cease installing open air gyms within the parks of Peshawar brings into the fore an issue long relegated to obscurity. The question, however, is not whether these gyms were useful or flawed. The question is who will answer for the public money that vanished with them. Under the previous government, the Sports 1000 Facilities initiative introduced open air gyms across the province. From Abbottabad to Nathia Gali and several other places, each one cost close to 2.1 million rupees. Most of them fell apart within months. The equipment rusted, the parts broke, and the sites fell into disuse. There was no plan for maintenance. No performance audit was conducted. Nobody bothered with an inquiry. The whole project vanished from the radar, as if public money had never been spent. Today, the present administration refers to these gyms as "unsuitable." That is an admission in itself that the earlier decision was flaw...

Celebrating Young Champions: Peshawar Students Shine at Inter-Schools Sports Gala 2025

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The courtyard of Government Higher Secondary School Haryana Bala carried a different kind of energy today. It wasn’t the usual morning noise or the rush of classes. Instead, the space echoed with applause, cheers and the proud smiles of young athletes who had just made their mark at the Inter-Schools Sports Gala 2025 in District Peshawar. These students didn’t just participate. They performed with heart. They ran, jumped, fought, defended, aimed and scored with the spirit that makes champions rise from school grounds. Their effort didn’t go unnoticed. To honour their hard work, the school held a simple but meaningful ceremony. No fancy lights, no grand stage. Just pure recognition. The kind that stays with a young player for life. The school principal stepped forward, looked at the students one by one and praised their dedication. He reminded them that medals are good, trophies are nice, but the biggest achievement is learning ...

Peshawar’s Tartan Track Still Stuck: No Revised PC-1, No Clarity, No Accountability

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The long-promised tartan track at the Peshawar Sports Complex remains frozen in red tape, and officials still cannot present a revised PC-1 or any updated paperwork to justify the delay. Months of claims about “reviews” and “technical adjustments” have produced nothing concrete. Not a single department has issued a timeline, cost update or even a basic progress note. People familiar with the process describe a file drifting between the Directorate of Sports and planning offices, with each pointing fingers quietly while avoiding public responsibility. What should have been a straightforward upgrade for athletes has turned into a quiet bureaucratic dead end. Coaches and athletes say they no longer expect quick progress. They note that other provinces continue to improve sports infrastructure, while Peshawar’s main facility still waits for work that was announced long ago. Players training for national events are forced onto uneven ...

JUI Bannu Expresses Concern Over Male Presence During Sports Events in Female Institutions

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator Bannu — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Bannu has expressed serious concern over reports of male presence during sports activities held in female educational institutions. The party stated that some events conducted under the supervision of the Regional Sports Office reportedly involved male staff entering or moving around these institutions, which they say goes against local religious and cultural norms. According to the party’s media wing, parents send their daughters to educational institutions for a safe and respectful learning environment. The presence of unrelated men during such activities raises questions and concerns among families. JUI Bannu has urged the district administration and the Education Department to ensure that all activities in female institutions follow the principles of modesty and cultural values. The party called for immediate corrective measures and strict oversight to prevent similar situations in the futur...

While Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Burned, the Chief Minister Played Cricket

Musarrat Ullah Jan – KikxNow digital crator Chief Minister Sohail Afridi recently attended the Media Cricket League — cheerful, smiling, and proud to say, “I’m happy to be part of the journalists’ program.” Then, in a flash of passion, he declared, “For the last twenty years, decisions have been made behind closed doors without taking us into confidence.” The statement drew chuckles from reporters. After all, if we pull out the calculator, PTI has been ruling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2013 — that’s thirteen years. Add the seven years before that, and you get twenty. So who exactly was making those “closed-door” decisions? Because if twenty years is the timeline, most of that belongs to PTI itself. The irony is thicker than the Khyber fog. Let's break it down: Before Sohail Afridi, it was Ali Amin Gandapur, then Mahmood Khan and then Pervez Khattak - all on the same PTI flag. So if decisions were wrong then the chief minister was basically pointing fingers at his own predeces...

Haryanabala’s Champions and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sleeping Sports System

Musarrat Ullah Jan – KikxNow digital crator In a dusty corner of Peshawar stands a government school — Government Higher Secondary School Haryanabala — where students have rewritten the definition of sportsmanship without a playground, gym, or proper shoes. In the Peshawar District Sports Gala 2025, these boys swept the field, defeating schools with far better facilities. They won eight first positions and four second positions, turning the entire event into a lesson for our sports bureaucracy: talent doesn’t live in files or funds, it breathes in forgotten classrooms. But while these kids were sweating it out in the sun, somewhere in a cozy air-conditioned office, the sports department was busy preparing “policy drafts” — the kind that look great on PowerPoint but do nothing on the ground. The students of Haryanabala train on broken grounds. Their relay baton is often a stick, their running shoes borrowed or worn out. Still, they dominate every race they enter. Meanwhile, ...

PTVC Faces Rs 1.397 Billion Loss Due to Non-Recovery from Sports Broadcasts

Karachi: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) suffered a massive Rs 1,397.885 million loss in the financial year 2023–24 due to non-recovery of dues from advertising agencies for sports programs aired on its PTV Sports channel. According to the audit report, management failed to ensure timely collection of bills and did not forward default cases to the Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) , resulting in the accumulation of outstanding payments. Several major events, including the Hero Men’s Asian Champion Trophy 2023 (Field Hockey), English Premier League 2023–24, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 , contributed to this loss as agencies did not clear their dues. The report also highlighted that PTVC management did not provide proper documentation such as bank statements, cheques, or invoices to support recovery claims. The audit flagged this as a clear indication of weak internal controls and stressed that immediate steps are needed to recover the dues. Audit Recomme...

PTVC Faces Rs 8.7 Million Loss Over Unauthorized Bonuses for ICC T20 World Cup

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) awarded Rs 8.7 million in bonuses to 19 officers, including the Managing Director, following the successful broadcast of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 , an audit report has revealed. Each officer, including the MD, received two months’ basic pay as a bonus, in clear violation of financial rules and directives from the Prime Minister. According to the report, Finance Division approval and consent from the relevant administrative ministry were required before issuing any such bonuses. The audit deemed the payments irregular and unjustified , especially considering that PTVC had already suffered significant losses from several sports broadcasts during 2023–24 and had billions of rupees outstanding from advertising agencies. Management defended the decision, stating that the Managing Director was authorized within the powers delegated by the Board of Directors , but the audit rejected this explanation, emphasizing that t...

PTVC Misses FIFA World Cup 2022 Media Rights, Suffers Millions in Losses

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) failed to acquire the media rights for FIFA World Cup 2022 for Pakistan, resulting in losses worth millions of rupees, according to an audit report. The process for acquiring media rights began in September–October 2021 through the regional rights holder M/s Viacom-18 and concluded in May 2022 , with M/s A-Sports successfully securing the rights. Despite previously broadcasting all matches of FIFA World Cups 2014 and 2018, PTVC showed limited interest and did not act decisively, depriving itself of potential advertising revenue and denying a significant portion of the population the opportunity to watch the global event. The audit report attributed the failure to the negligence of the then Director of Sports & Syndication, Dr. Nauman Niaz, and the Chief Organizer Sports, Mr. Osma Azhar , who were responsible for pursuing the rights. The audit also noted that no action has been taken against the responsible officials, ...
