Peshawar’s Tartan Track Still Stuck: No Revised PC-1, No Clarity, No Accountability
Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator
The long-promised tartan track at the Peshawar Sports
Complex remains frozen in red tape, and officials still cannot present a
revised PC-1 or any updated paperwork to justify the delay. Months of claims
about “reviews” and “technical adjustments” have produced nothing concrete. Not
a single department has issued a timeline, cost update or even a basic progress
note.
People familiar with the process describe a file drifting
between the Directorate of Sports and planning offices, with each pointing
fingers quietly while avoiding public responsibility. What should have been a
straightforward upgrade for athletes has turned into a quiet bureaucratic dead
end.
Coaches and athletes say they no longer expect quick
progress. They note that other provinces continue to improve sports
infrastructure, while Peshawar’s main facility still waits for work that was
announced long ago. Players training for national events are forced onto uneven
grounds, exposing them to avoidable injuries.
The lack of transparency has raised obvious questions. If
the PC-1 was revised, why is it hidden? If it wasn’t, why were officials making
commitments? And if the file is stuck, who will step forward to fix it?
Right now, the stalled tartan track is more than an
unfinished project. It shows how weak coordination and poor oversight continue
to hold back sports in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The promises were loud. The progress
is silent.
