The Silent Youth Centers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The dust had settled, not on the construction sites, but on unresolved questions. Deep in the center of Peshawar, a reporter tapped his pen on a pile of shiny photographs, the pictures of newly constructed Youth Centers taunting him with their silent promise. Thirty-five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were being gifted these centers, designed to empower the youth of the region, but the details, the blood of accountability, remained obstinately hidden. It started with a humble query, submitted under the Right to Information Act on March 17, 2025. Sahai, an old hand at journalism with a keen sense of smell for transparency, wanted to shed light on the reality of these promising buildings. He wished to know the price, the timeline, the very heartbeat of these projects. The reply, however, was a photo gallery of facades ā€“ places and images, without substance. "They sent me postcards, not answers," Sahai growled, anger evident in his tone. "Where is the budget? The dea...

Khyber Sports Funds: Demand for Transparency

An aura of obscurity surrounds sports funds allocation in Khyber district, where important details are lacking in public reports. These basic questions are left unanswered, hampering public scrutiny and raising doubts regarding the judicious spend of sports money. The present District Sports Officer (DSO) of Khyber has confirmed that the incidents in question took place ...

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) distributes funds to various sports federations, provincial sports boards, and specific projects. Decade of Dedication, Zero Security: Charsadda's Sports Coaches Left in Limbo

For more than a decade, the daily wage coaches at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charsadda have worked tirelessly with their hearts and skills to develop talent in the area. However, they are stuck in a cycle of uncertainty, not being given permanent jobs that rightfully belong to them.   As approved BPS-16 coaching jobs lie idle since 2017, these passionate coaches, specialists in football, cricket, badminton, and hockey, fight to survive, their futures uncertain. Finance Department records verify six empty, fully funded posts, a contrast to the Sports Directorate's empty assurances. Other districts have experienced hiring, but Charsadda's coaches, qualified and experienced as they are, are ignored time and time again. This is not an isolated Charsadda problem; it's a symptom of a broader affliction. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as a whole, talented sport professionals are being driven into unsustainable daily wage situations by bureaucratic momentum and the l...

Drowning in Neglect: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Swimming Future at Stake

The serene waters of the swimming pool at Peshawar's Sports Complex remain undisturbed, a stark reflection of the neglect that has engulfed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's swimming scene. With the National Games looming, uncertainty hangs heavy over the province's swimmers, their future seemingly adrift in a sea of apathy. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Swimming Association's failure to kickstart activities has left the province's swimmers treading water, their performance at the Quaid-e-Azam Games a testament to this neglect. As the National Games approach, the situation remains murky, with no clarity on which swimmers will represent the province. While other sports have conducted trials and announced teams, swimming remains shrouded in ambiguity. The absence of competitions and a clear selection policy has cast a long shadow over the province's hopes of securing medals in the 32 swimming events. The sport's decline is a stark contrast to the attention it received...
