Merit Violation and Illegal Appointments in KPK Sports Directorate: The Future of Young Athletes at Stake
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Sports Directorate is seriously accused of merit violations and illegal appointments on the pretext of additional charges. The hapless handling of administrative affairs and politically motivated decisions are jeopardizing the future of young athletes.
KPK Sports Directorate has emerged as a center of anomalies
where people with no sports background whatsoever are being posted on senior
positions. In a mind-boggling instance, an officer who was listed as dead on
official documents was posted to the Directorate. Furthermore, deputed officers
with no sports management experience are being given preference, bringing the
Directorate to the verge of breakdown. The absence of transparency and
merit-based recruitment is causing serious concern among sports experts.
The habit of awarding extra charge to influential persons
without adhering to the set legal processes has gone haywire. Numerous officers
who are not qualified and skilled enough have been entrusted with key
positions, most of the time with lucrative allowances. These illegal
appointments under acting statuses not only disrupted the hiring process for
permanent statuses but also escalated unemployment rates among talented youth.
Mismanagement in the Sports Directorate has reached an
alarming proportion, with no proper documentation of transport vehicles or fuel
consumption. Some officers are said to have given official cars to their
favorite people without any papers or explanation. Lack of transport and fuel
records reflects serious administration failures, both in the Sports
Directorate and its supported projects.
Ensure total merit and transparency in all appointments in
the Sports Directorate.
Instantly cancel illegal appointments made on additional
charge.
Speed up the recruitment process of permanent posts to give
opportunities to deserving officers.
Create a committee to monitor deputation appointments to
prevent abuse of authority.
Institute strict accountability procedures to check
irregularities and corruption.
Provide reasonable representation to officers belonging to
less developed districts like Torghar, Kohistan, Malakand, and Upper Dir.
Enforce the two-year rule of transfer to prevent politically
motivated transfers.
Carry out a complete assets audit of officials held prior to
and post-joining the Sports Directorate.
Youth sportspersons and sports enthusiasts have registered
their strong concern at the prevalent mismanagement and merit violation. Unless
correctives are immediately undertaken, the future of millions of promising
sportspersons will be left under a cloud, and public confidence in the
institution will further decline.
