DSO Karak Trains 14 New Players and Hosts 25 Events in 2024-25

Karak:Karark District Sports Officer (DSO) has reportedly trained 14 new players, two of whom are female players, in the fiscal year 2024-25. The DSO also hosted 25 sports events in the same time frame. No information regarding the newly trained players, such as their names and performances at the provincial or national levels, has been made public.

In the 2023-24 financial year, Rs. 3.29 million had been used by the DSO Karak on sports activities in a budget of Rs. 3.3 million. During the current 2024-25 financial year, Rs. 5.57 million had already been incurred by the office. Nevertheless, the total amount of allocated funds for this financial year hasn't been shared by the DSO, triggering the issue of fiscal transparency.

As per the report published by the District Sports Office, Karak had 21 staff members in 2023-24, and the figure rose to 25 in 2024-25. The report asserts that the DSO has produced 14 new players, two of whom are female athletes. The distribution of new players is as follows:

Cricket: 2 players

Futsal: 1 player

Football: 2 players

Weightlifting: 1 player

Volleyball: 3 players

Karate (Men): 3 players

Karate (Women): 3 players

In spite of the allegations, the DSO has not made the names of these athletes or their performance at provincial or national levels public.

The DSO hosted 15 events in 2023-24 and took the number to 25 in 2024-25. The report is silent on the type of events, venues, and the number of athletes participating. The details were revealed under the Right to Information Act by the District Sports Office, Karak.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, three sports associations were registered under the DSO Karak and four associations were registered in 2024-25.

The sports experts and enthusiasts have been concerned about the transparency issue of the reports being presented by the DSO. The fact that no information has been provided on the trained sportsmen and the events held raised questions over the success of the sports promotion work in the district.
