Hockey Turf Cleaning Machines Worth Rs. 6 Million Left to Rust

Peshawar: It has been three years since three hockey turf cleaning machines, bought in 2018 at a cost of Rs. 6 million, were put in a room in the incharge gardeners' and here they are rusting. Sources say these machines are an approximate Rs. 2 million each and they are never used after that time. Sources indicate that because the gardeners in-charge lacked adequate information about these machines, they ended up misapplying them on the hockey turf and damaged the turf grass. Realizing this, the machines were put out of use and now collect dust and rust in storage. The in-charge of the gardeners is also due to retire after three months, so that will further worsen their fate. Sports activists have requested the Provincial Sports Minister, the Secretary of Sports, and the DG Sports to act at the earliest. They demanded that either the machines should be shifted to a secure store or auctioned to avoid further wastage of public money. #HockeyTurfMachinery #SportsF...

Peshawar: Rs 8 Million Hockey Turf Cleaning Equipment Allowed to Rust in Inconsideration

The state-of-the-art Rs. 8 million hockey turf cleaning machine purchased by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate remains dusting and dirty in this scenario of extreme lack of administrative oversight. Costly equipment for maintaining pristine conditions of hockey turfs has been exposed to dust, grime, and waterlogging without any proper cleaning and protective measures. This is a sad but telling episode of negligence and lack of proper management in the sports sector. The machine, purchased in 2020 when former DG Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Asfandyar Khattak, was at the helm, was first used for hockey turf maintenance at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium, Peshawar during the provincial hockey league. Later on, it was given on temporary lease to the Pakistan Air Force to use it for their own turf maintenance purposes.   However, when it came back, the machine was unceremoniously abandoned in an open area and parked beside other ordinary vehicles. It was not provide...

Peshawar Youth Programs Under Fire: Budget Mismanagement and Ineffective Implementation

The District Youth Office, Peshawar, has organized numerous youth programs throughout the year, focusing on awareness and skill development. However, a deeper analysis of these programs reveals serious issues related to imbalanced budgeting, cost-cutting measures, and inefficient resource allocation. A report released by the Youth Office Peshawar highlights significant discrepancies in program expenditures. For instance, the Women's Week Expo held on September 19, 2024, incurred expenses of 485,000 rupees, far exceeding other programs. In contrast, events like the Monsoon Plantation Drive on July 24, 2024, and Youth Day on August 4, 2024, had budgets of only 40,000 and 50,000 rupees respectively. These disparities raise questions about resource allocation and the justification for such varying costs. Additionally, several programs between September and December 2024 have "bills pending," including key initiatives like the first training session on youth's ro...
