Shah Tahmas Ground Peshawar: Where Have the Iron Fences and Security Wires Gone?

Who is responsible for protecting
public property, and who will be held accountable for the loss?
Iron fencing and security wires were installed
around the boundary walls of Shah Tahmas Ground, which houses the Regional
Sports Officer’s office in Peshawar. Now, the fencing and wires are being
removed as the walls are being raised. But a serious question remains: Where
has the removed government property gone?
According to reports, a substantial portion of
the removed fencing is missing. If this public property has indeed gone missing
from official custody, where is the record? Which officer or employee was
responsible for its safekeeping? Was the removal and transfer of this material
properly documented?
When watchmen and security personnel are
present at the premises, who was responsible for ensuring that public property
remained safe and accounted for?
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports
Department must answer the following questions:
1.
Publish the
inventory and procurement records of the removed iron fencing and security
wires.
2.
Establish how much
material remains, how much was transferred elsewhere, and how much is
unaccounted for.
3.
Identify the
responsible officials and, if negligence or financial loss is established, take
legal action and recover the amount due in accordance with the law.
4.
Inform the public
about who will investigate the matter and who will be held accountable.
Will the Shah Tahmas Ground fencing issue meet
the same fate as the reportedly missing fountains and fencing at Lala Ayub
Hockey Stadium, or will the authorities finally ensure a proper accounting of
public assets?
Public money belongs to the people. It
is not the personal property of any government officer or employee. The public
deserves answers.
