Serious questions have been raised over the provision of refreshments and daily allowances to teams, judges, and umpires during the three-day Inter-School District Hockey Tournament held in Peshawar.

According to information available, teams were provided refreshments on the first day of the tournament, but several teams reportedly did not receive refreshments on the second and third days.

This has raised an important question: if a budget for refreshments was allocated for all three days, why were several participating teams not provided refreshments on the remaining two days?

It has also been reported that in other districts, teams participating in inter-school hockey competitions were provided Rs 3,000 per day for refreshments, while judges and umpires received Rs 1,000 per day as a daily allowance.

The situation in Peshawar, however, appears to have followed a different arrangement, with questions remaining over whether similar payments were made to participating teams, judges and umpires.

If teams in other districts were receiving Rs 3,000 per day for refreshments and officials were receiving Rs 1,000 per day as a daily allowance, why was the same mechanism not followed in Peshawar?

Was a specific budget approved for refreshments and daily allowances for the Peshawar tournament? If so, how much money was allocated, how much was spent, and to whom were the payments made?

The issue of payments to judges and umpires also requires clarification. These officials performed their duties throughout the tournament, so it should be made clear whether they were paid a daily allowance. If the allowance was not paid, what was the official basis for that decision?

The matter is not simply about refreshments or a few thousand rupees. It concerns the transparent use of public funds allocated for school sports. When different financial arrangements are reportedly being followed in different districts for similar competitions, the relevant authorities should make the complete financial record available.

The concerned authorities should clarify the approved budget for the Peshawar Inter-School District Hockey Tournament, the amount allocated for refreshments, payments made to teams, daily allowances for judges and umpires, and the relevant bills, vouchers and payment records.

The key questions remain:

If teams in other districts received Rs 3,000 per day for refreshments and judges and umpires received Rs 1,000 per day as a daily allowance, why was the same facility not provided in Peshawar? And if funds had been allocated for the three-day event, why were several teams reportedly left without refreshments on the second and third days?
