The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) school cricket tournament has started in Kurram, but the condition of the Sadda Sports Complex in Lower Kurram raises serious questions about the availability of basic sports facilities for young players.

On the opening day of the tournament, the Sadda Sports Complex reportedly had no proper cricket pitch, while the condition of the playing ground was also unsuitable for a quality cricket competition.

Photographs taken at the sports complex on September 19, 2026 show the poor condition of the ground and the absence of a properly prepared cricket pitch.

The situation raises a basic question: How can school-level cricket tournaments be conducted in Lower Kurram when the local sports complex does not have a usable cricket pitch?

Players and local sports circles have also questioned the distribution of sports facilities across Kurram, particularly whether adequate attention and resources are reaching Lower Kurram and Sadda, rather than being concentrated elsewhere in the district.

However, this claim requires a response from the relevant authorities. The District Sports Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate, district administration and PCB should clarify whether any funds have been allocated for the development or rehabilitation of the Sadda Sports Complex and, if so, how much has actually been spent.

The issue also deserves scrutiny in light of the 2026-27 financial allocations for sports in Kurram. Finance Department figures show that Rs 7.237 million has been allocated under the Sports, Culture, Tourism and Museums sector for the district. So far, Rs 702,250 has been released, while expenditure of Rs 141,316 has been recorded.

The key question for the authorities is straightforward:

If public money is being allocated for sports development in Kurram, why does Sadda Sports Complex still lack a basic cricket pitch when schoolchildren are being asked to play competitive cricket there?

The authorities should publicly explain the condition of the facility, the funds allocated for its improvement, and the timeline, if any, for construction of a proper cricket pitch.

The photographs from September 19, 2026, provide a visual record of the ground’s condition on the opening day of the tournament
