Lower Kurram: The school cricket tournament under the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started today, but the current condition of Sadda Sports Complex in Lower Kurram has raised serious questions about sports facilities and official attention to the area.

According to photographs obtained from the site, there is no proper cricket pitch at the Sadda Sports Complex. The condition and surface of the ground also appear unsuitable for organized cricket.

Local players and people associated with sports say the ground lacks several basic facilities, including a proper cricket pitch, equipment required for pitch preparation and leveling such as rollers, a grass cricket pitch, adequate security arrangements, and a proper boundary wall.

The players question why, if cricket tournaments are being organized at the official level to promote cricket in Kurram, a large populated area such as Sadda does not have a standard cricket ground and basic facilities for young players.

Local sports circles also raise questions about the balance of sports facilities and official attention between Parachinar and Lower Kurram. They say Lower Kurram should also receive adequate attention in the development of sports infrastructure.

The absence of a boundary wall and proper security arrangements at Sadda Sports Complex is particularly significant when school cricket and other sports activities are being held there.

Another important question is how much funding was allocated and spent specifically for the improvement of Sadda Sports Complex, including construction or renovation of a cricket pitch, ground leveling, pitch preparation, boundary wall, security arrangements and other basic facilities.

According to available Finance Department figures for the financial year 2026-27, Rs7,237,430 has been allocated for the Sports, Culture, Tourism and Museums sector in Kurram district. Of this amount, Rs702,250 has been released, while Rs141,316 has been shown as expenditure so far.

The key question is: How much of this budget was allocated for sports infrastructure in Lower Kurram, particularly Sadda Sports Complex? If funds were allocated or spent for the facility, what development work has actually been completed there?

The relevant Sports Department, district administration and Pakistan Cricket Board should clarify why a school cricket tournament is being held at a ground without a proper cricket pitch and what arrangements have been made for the participating players.

They should also clarify what plans are in place to provide Sadda Sports Complex with basic cricket and sports facilities.

For the players of Lower Kurram, the issue is not simply about one cricket tournament. The larger question is whether young people across all parts of Kurram have equal access to basic sports facilities and infrastructure.
