New Sports DG Provides Uniforms and Weapons to Security Staff

The newly appointed Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate has provided uniforms to security guards, along with two Kalashnikov rifles for security duties.

It is certainly a positive step to ensure that security personnel are properly identifiable.

At the DG Sports office, Class-IV employees have also reportedly been dressed in white clothes, black waistcoats, black slippers and Chitrali caps.

That may look good for discipline and identification, but there is an important question for the DG.

Sir, please do not take it the wrong way, but security is a professional job.

Most of these Class-IV employees reportedly have not received proper weapons or security training. If, God forbid, an incident occurs, who will be responsible?

The Sports Directorate already has permanent employees who were recruited for security duties. However, many of them are reportedly working on other posts or performing duties elsewhere instead of their designated security responsibilities.

There is another issue that also needs immediate attention.

Some security personnel have reportedly not received their salaries for two months. They have families to support and responsibilities to fulfil. This matter should also be investigated.

There was also an incident some time ago in which a daily-wage employee died in an accident, after which a relative was given a job. The department should ensure that such a situation does not arise again and that proper safety and security arrangements are made in advance.

DG Sahib, the entire department is now your responsibility and your orders carry authority. Security, however, is not just about uniforms, waistcoats, Chitrali caps and weapons. It also requires trained personnel, proper deployment and timely salaries.
