PESHAWAR: Questions surrounding the
alleged disappearance of government vehicles belonging to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Sports Directorate have intensified after reports emerged that police recovered
a vehicle during the investigation of a kidnapping case, with sources claiming
it belongs to the Sports Directorate. However, neither the police nor the
Sports Directorate has officially confirmed or denied the claim.
If verified, the development raises
serious concerns about the custody and use of government property. How did a
government vehicle allegedly end up in the possession of a private individual?
Was it officially assigned? Who was responsible for its movement? Where is its
logbook and movement record? Has any departmental inquiry been initiated?
The issue comes against the backdrop
of repeated questions regarding the whereabouts and use of Sports Directorate
vehicles. Instead of providing detailed explanations, the department has
largely remained silent.
Following earlier reports on the
issue, the Secretary Sports served the journalist with a legal notice seeking
Rs1 billion in damages, alleging that the reporting had damaged the
department's reputation. Despite the legal action, key questions regarding the
management and accountability of government vehicles remain unanswered.
Sources further claimed that
Peshawar Police visited the Peshawar Sports Complex three days ago and recorded
statements from several individuals as part of their inquiry. There has been no
official confirmation from the police regarding the purpose or findings of the
visit.
Efforts were also made to obtain the
department's version. The Director Establishment of the Sports Directorate was
contacted multiple times through WhatsApp and mobile phone. According to the
reporter, the first WhatsApp call was declined after the message was seen,
while subsequent calls went unanswered. No official response had been received
by the time this report was filed.
Whether these reports are ultimately
confirmed or disproved, the controversy highlights a broader issue of
transparency and accountability in the management of public assets. The public
deserves clear answers, supported by official records, rather than continued
silence.
