The disappearance of a government-owned boxing ring in Dera Ismail Khan has raised serious concerns, with conflicting statements from officials adding to the controversy.

According to sources, the boxing ring was purchased around 20 years ago at a cost of approximately Rs. 2.2 million. With current market prices, its estimated value has increased significantly and is now believed to be worth several million rupees.

Sources say the boxing ring was issued for a sporting event in August last year. Although officials claimed it was returned after the event, it never made its way back to the district boxing arena.

Local boxers say the absence of the ring has severely affected training activities. Regular practice sessions have nearly stopped, aspiring athletes are losing interest in the sport, and existing boxers are unable to train properly due to the lack of essential equipment.

The issue became even more controversial when, a few months ago, the Regional Sports Officer of Dera Ismail Khan told this correspondent, "The boxing ring was never handed over to me." This statement directly contradicts claims that the ring had been returned to the Regional Sports Office after the event.

Sources also claim that the same government-owned boxing ring was seen in the possession of a private individual some time ago. Photographs allegedly showing the ring circulated on social media. Despite this, no clear action has been made public regarding its recovery, and the Sports Department has not officially disclosed its current whereabouts.

The case raises several important questions:

  • If the boxing ring was handed over to the Regional Sports Office, where is the official record acknowledging its receipt?
  • If, as the Regional Sports Officer claims, the ring was never received, who remained responsible for this government asset?
  • Where is the boxing ring today, and why has it not been returned to the district's boxing facility?

Athletes and members of the local sports community have called for a transparent and independent inquiry into the disappearance of the government-owned boxing ring, its chain of custody, and its current status. They say those responsible should be held accountable and the boxing ring should be returned so boxing activities in Dera Ismail Khan can resume.
