Serious questions are once again being raised regarding the quality and oversight of sports development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The artificial turf recently installed in Parachinar, the district headquarters of Kurram, is allegedly substandard and defective. However, the relevant authorities have yet to issue an official stance on the matter.

According to sources, the turf in Parachinar has been poorly installed in fragmented patches rather than a seamless layout. Local sports enthusiasts and stakeholders have expressed deep concerns over the project's quality. Paradoxically, this project was completed in the home region of the Director General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa himself.

While the KP Sports Advisor reportedly took notice of the issue and the Merged Districts Sports Directorate launched an inquiry, the findings have not yet been made public. Furthermore, no action has been reported against those responsible.

Simultaneously, major red flags are being raised over a massive Rs 1 billion Tartan Track and Rehabilitation project underway in Peshawar. A state-of-the-art digital screen—valued at approximately Rs 30 million and a key component of the project—is completely missing from the site.

Project Oversight: According to official documents and available data, this mega-project is being overseen by the Engineering Wing of the Provincial Sports Directorate. Despite the completion of several phases of the project, the absence of the digital screen casts a dark shadow over the performance and monitoring system of the authorities involved.

Local sports circles are demanding immediate transparency. They argue that if substandard turf is being laid in Parachinar while multi-million rupee equipment goes missing from billion-rupee projects in Peshawar, a thorough, public investigation is absolutely vital to ensure accountability.

It remains to be seen when the provincial government, the Sports Advisor, and the Sports Directorate will answer these looming questions and unveil the truth behind the financial and structural integrity of these projects.
