KP Government Grant for Bodybuilding Event Raises Questions Amid PSB Warning

Questions are being raised over the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s decision to approve a special grant-in-aid for a bodybuilding championship after it emerged that the Pakistan Sports Board had already issued clear instructions regarding a disputed bodybuilding body linked to Tariq Pervaiz.

On 4 April 2026, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government cabinet approved funding for a National Bodybuilding Championship held in Peshawar. However, the official press release did not disclose the organizers or the affiliated federation responsible for the event.

In contrast, the Pakistan Sports Board had issued a circular on 27 June 2025 stating that the “Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation” associated with Tariq Pervaiz is not recognized and has no legal authority to represent bodybuilding at the national level.

This raises a key question: whether the event funded by the provincial government was connected to the same unrecognized group or not.

Sources indicate that during the event, Tariq Pervaiz was seen interacting with a government-linked advisor, where remarks such as “your work is done” were allegedly heard. While this cannot be independently verified, it has intensified concerns around possible informal facilitation.

Additionally, an official from the KP Sports Directorate, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that a politically influential figure may have played a role in facilitating the approval of the grant. This claim has not been officially confirmed.

Experts suggest that if public funds were allocated to an event linked to an unrecognized body, it could raise serious governance and procedural concerns, especially given prior federal-level warnings.

Attempts were made to obtain comments from KP Sports authorities and the Pakistan Sports Board, but no official response has been received so far.

Key questions remain:

Was the verification of event organizers properly conducted?

Was consultation made with the Pakistan Sports Board?

Were rules followed in approving the grant?

The issue highlights broader concerns regarding transparency and oversight in sports governance.
