A seasoned football coach from Charsadda has been removed from the system after 13 years of service, despite producing numerous players who have gone on to represent national camps, public sector institutions, and university teams. The development has raised serious questions about merit, recruitment practices, and policy priorities within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s sports structure.
According to available information, the coach served as a volunteer from 2014 to 2016 and continued working on daily wages with the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2017 to 2026. Despite over a decade of service, he was never regularized, raising concerns about the lack of a clear policy framework for grassroots coaches.
In terms of performance, the coach’s record is notable. Players trained under him have secured positions in institutions such as Pakistan Army, Police, WAPDA, and POF. Among the prominent names are Hasan Zeb, a gold medalist in the Army-organized National Championship 2025; Saifullah and Rahman Gul in the Police Department; Raheem Gul and Haider in Pakistan Army; Nadeem Jan and Waqar Hassan in WAPDA; Humayun in POF; and Zahid, who has represented at the university level. Goalkeeper Hassan has also been part of the Pakistan camp, while several others have performed at regional and university competitions.
At the coaching level, he held key roles at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charsadda. He served as Head Coach of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa women’s football team in the National Games (Karachi 2025–26) and the Prime Minister Games (Lahore 2022). He also coached the U16 futsal team in Quetta and the U21 women’s team, in addition to organizing a women’s futsal tournament at the Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in 2026. More than 20 players trained under him are currently serving in various institutions.
Sources claim that while the coach was removed, non-technical or Class-IV level recruitments continued, raising further concerns about priorities within the system. When questioned, the provincial sports advisor responded briefly, stating: “Right people have been appointed.”
This situation raises fundamental questions about whether the sports system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is driven by merit and performance, or influenced by other considerations. The removal of a coach with a proven record of developing players calls for serious scrutiny of policy and decision-making standards within the department.
