Peshawar Sports Complex: Kite Flying and the Inequality of Law

At Peshawar Sports Complex, what appears to be a harmless
pastime actually exposes a glaring disregard for rules and the unchecked
influence of officials. During Ramadan, children of certain officials have been
entering the complex and flying kites daily on the hockey ground between Asr
and Maghrib.
The problem is not the activity itself, but the unequal
application of the law. Any ordinary citizen or athlete attempting the same
would face immediate action. Yet the children of officials operate without
consequence. One day, a sports advisor personally intervened and chased them
away, even taking a class for Class Four employees—but the practice continued
unabated.
This is not just fun; it is a clear case of power being
abused. Staff members fear confronting these children because they risk the
wrath of influential parents. The law, it seems, does not apply equally: it is
effectively suspended for the children of the powerful.
Flying kites daily on a public hockey ground sends a message
to young athletes: rules and regulations exist only for ordinary people. The
continued tolerance of this behavior undermines transparency, accountability,
and the very principles meant to govern the complex.
Ultimately, this episode exposes a fundamental truth:
government institutions maintain laws only on paper. Their enforcement is
selective, eroding fairness and sending a dangerous message to the youth about
privilege and impunity.
