In Peshawar, the Muazullah Khan Cricket Academy, located adjacent to Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, is witnessing a sharp rise in the number of young cricketers, with registrations reaching around 100 in a short span.
The academy had remained closed due to the reconstruction of the stadium but was reopened nearly two months ago. Since its revival, participation has steadily increased, particularly among junior players from areas including Kohat Road and the University belt.
Despite operating under the provincial Sports Directorate, the academy currently has no dedicated budget, raising questions about sustainability and resource management.
Coaching duties are being handled by Irfan Babu and Irfan Afridi, who have been deputed from the Peshawar Saddar Cricket Academy. At present, the facility offers only net practice, with 7 to 8 nets available, while key infrastructure such as a gym is still missing.
Historically, the academy holds significance as one of the first government-run cricket training centers in Peshawar. Many local cricketers began their careers here, and several Afghan players also received early training at this facility.
Although another academy was later established in Peshawar Saddar, Muazullah Khan Cricket Academy continues to serve as a primary grassroots training hub for young talent in the city.
However, the growing number of players against limited facilities and absence of a formal budget raises serious concerns about long-term planning and institutional support.
