The Federal Government has enforced the Pakistan Sports
Board (PSB) Constitution 2022, introducing strict regulations over sports
governance, international participation, and federation recognition in the
country.
Under Rule 7(1)(xxxiii), no athlete or team affiliated with
any national sports federation, organization, association, or club can travel
abroad without prior approval from the PSB. Officials say the move is aimed at
preventing unauthorized foreign tours and ensuring centralized oversight of
sports representation.
Rule 22 of the same constitution further clarifies that
non-affiliated or non-recognized federations are not authorized to regulate
sports in Pakistan or represent the country in international events or forums.
In line with these regulations, the PSB has issued a list of
over 50 non-affiliated sports organizations operating across different
disciplines, including MMA groups, E-Sports bodies, Scrabble associations,
Gymnastics groups, Motorsport entities, Pickleball, Tug of War, Triathlon, and
several other emerging or informal sports bodies.
The PSB has advised athletes, parents, sponsors, and
stakeholders to verify the legal status of any federation before participating
in events, joining teams, or funding international participation. Officials
warned that involvement with non-recognized bodies could result in visa
complications, travel restrictions, and loss of eligibility for official
representation.
The decision is expected to have a significant impact on
grassroots sports and emerging disciplines, where multiple unofficial bodies
currently operate without formal affiliation.
Observers say the move could bring regulatory clarity, but
may also restrict opportunities for athletes in emerging sports unless a clear
recognition pathway is introduced.
