Peshawar: Concerns are being raised over the promotion system within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate and merged districts sports structure, where coaches allegedly face inconsistent standards compared to other government employees.

Officials and observers point out that while promotions in clerical and driving cadres are strictly governed by service rules, educational requirements, and seniority, the promotion pathway for sports coaches appears less structured and more influenced by informal considerations.

Questions are being raised about the educational qualifications and professional development of a significant number of coaches working in sports such as cricket, tennis, weightlifting, and bodybuilding. Critics argue that many entered service at Grade-10 level and have shown limited engagement in formal coaching education or modern training methodologies.

Allegations also include irregular postings, paper-based transfers without actual field duties, and return-to-headquarters arrangements after completing required service periods. Stakeholders claim that such practices raise concerns about transparency and merit in the system.

The debate has intensified as demands grow for a standardized promotion framework based on qualifications, certification, and performance metrics rather than informal influence.

Authorities have not yet issued a detailed public response to these concerns.
