Peshawar: Nearly nine months after a Right to Information
(RTI) request was filed, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate has yet to
provide crucial details regarding Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium. The request sought
information on turf maintenance, machinery repair costs, and removed structures
and fountains from the stadium.
The RTI request asked for:
A full breakdown of machinery repair costs, including bills,
work orders, and details of the companies or individuals involved.
Confirmation if machines are still being operated with daily
water refills, and whether any investigation has been conducted regarding this
practice.
Copies of any dissent notes sent to the former DG Khalid
Khan, and their outcomes.
Documentation showing when and under what conditions control
of the stadium was transferred to the provincial directorate.
Records of old huts and fountains removed from the stadium,
including their quantity and whether they were given to anyone.
Despite contacting the Pakistan Sports Board, the
responsibility for these records lies with the provincial Sports Directorate.
The prolonged delay raises concerns over transparency and accountability,
particularly regarding public interest and provincial sports infrastructure.
The RTI Act 2017 guarantees citizens access to records
related to public affairs, and this extended delay undermines public trust and
the principles of open governance.
