A legal and administrative dispute has emerged after two Peshawar-based cricket figures, Javed Babar and Masood Afridi, were allegedly excluded from the official reward list linked to Asia Cup participation incentives approved by the provincial government.

According to details, both individuals have formally sent a legal notice to the Director General Sports, the Secretary Sports, and the concerned responsible official, Zawar, challenging their exclusion from the approved list.

The legal notice argues that their omission was made despite eligibility, claiming that the decision violates merit principles and contradicts government policy on sports incentives. The petitioners maintain that their inclusion was justified based on participation and performance criteria, and that their exclusion amounts to administrative unfairness.

The controversy stems from decisions taken during the 50th provincial cabinet meeting held on April 4, 2026, chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The cabinet had approved multiple sports-related initiatives, including financial incentives for athletes representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in international events such as the Asia Cup and other regional competitions.

The same meeting also approved funding for infrastructure projects, including a tehsil sports complex in Parwa, Dera Ismail Khan, and financial support for wheelchair cricket athletes who participated in international series events.

However, the post-approval implementation of the reward list has now become contentious. The exclusion of two players has triggered legal action and raised questions over the transparency and criteria used in finalizing beneficiaries.

The matter is expected to escalate further unless the relevant authorities provide a formal clarification and review the reward allocation process.
