Peshawar: Provincial Minister Mina Khan Afridi has inaugurated a modern sports ground project at Government Shaheed Hasnain Sharif Higher Secondary School No. 1. While the project’s features and promises have been announced, practical and administrative aspects remain unclear.

Safe walking and jogging track for women

Futsal ground for youth

Synthetic jogging track

Basketball and volleyball courts

Cricket practice area

LED lights and boundary wall

Key Concerns Identified:

Responsibility and Funding Unclear:

It is not clear whether the project will be funded by the Provincial Sports Directorate, the local government, or the Education Department.

A squash court built three years ago in the same school, costing PKR 12 million, has not been handed over to anyone and remains unused, raising questions about the effective implementation of new projects.

There are no details on daily maintenance, security, or usage regulations.

Without addressing these practical concerns, this ground risks becoming another underutilized facility like the previous squash court.

The school’s location on GT Road Peshawar and proximity to Shahi Bagh makes it unclear how women can safely access the facility.

Claims that both urban and rural populations will equally benefit need verification.

Five years ago, a proposal for a sports ground in the same school was submitted but never executed.

The squash court built three years ago remains unused, showing that announcing projects is not enough; proper implementation and sustainability are critical.

Community Involvement Missing:

There is no mention of local community consultation or feedback in the planning process.

Without community engagement, the project may fail to meet the actual needs of the population.

Who will fund this project: the Provincial Sports Directorate, local government, or Education Department?

Who will cover maintenance, security, and operational costs?

Will women actually be able to access the facility, or is this primarily for publicity?

Considering past failures, who will take full responsibility for this project’s success?

The project cannot be limited to announcements and promises. Without clear implementation plans, defined responsibilities, community involvement, and sustainability measures, it risks becoming another non-functional initiative rather than a facility benefiting youth and women.
