Peshawar Press Club Kicks Off 10-Day "Ramadan Hope Sports Gala"

Peshawar: The 10-day "Ramadan Hope Sports Gala" was spectacularly inaugurated at the Peshawar Press Club, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Local Government and Higher Education, Mina Khan Afridi, gracing the ceremony as the chief guest.

The event officially began as Minister Afridi played a ceremonial badminton match, marking the start of the sports gala. The Press Club administration and the organizing sports committee presented a special gala kit to the minister. A large gathering of Press Club officials, members of the governing body, and journalists participated in the opening ceremony and subsequent sports activities.

Speaking at the event, Minister Afridi praised journalists for their dedication during challenging times and highlighted the importance of positive recreational activities. He announced a PKR 500,000 fund for the sports gala, promising that previously announced funds for the MCL would also be released soon. The minister assured full support from the provincial government to provide all necessary facilities to the Peshawar Press Club.

Addresses were also delivered by E. Riaz, President of the Peshawar Press Club, Zubair Ilahi, Director of HOPE Organization, and Kashifuddin Syed, Chairman of the Sports Committee.

Gala Competitions and Winners

The sports gala featured six indoor games, generating significant enthusiasm among participants:

Chess: Shakeel Farman Ali emerged victorious, while Ejaz Ahmed received a walkover.

Ludo: Sixteen matches were played, with winners including Aqeel Ahmed & Aqib Javed, Arshad Dar & Arshad Arbab, Asad Ali & Asfandyar Anjum, and several others. Some players received walkovers due to absence of opponents.

Snooker: Shahzad Rasheed, Muhammad Ali Shaoor, Musharraf Ali, Mohsin Ali, and Muneeb won their matches, while Tayyab Usman and Amir Riaz got walkovers.

Badminton: Victories were secured by teams including Sheharyar Anjum & Bilawal Arbab, Nematullah & Faizan Hussain, Nasrullah & Usman Ali, Wajid Shehzad & Asad Sabri, among others.

Carrom Board: A total of 12 matches were held, with winners including Qadir Khan, Zulfiqar Ahmed, Ajmal Khan, Zia ul Haq, Adeel Khan, and others.

The indoor competitions will continue over the next ten days, with active participation from the Peshawar Press Club’s esteemed members.
