Pakistan has a long and proud history at the Commonwealth
Games, marked by determination, talent, and memorable victories. The journey
began at the 1954 Vancouver Games, where Pakistan won 6 medals—1 gold, 3
silver, and 2 bronze—setting the stage for future success.
Over the decades, Pakistan consistently showcased its
strength in various sports. At the 1958 Cardiff Games, the country achieved 10
medals, including 3 golds, highlighting the rise of Pakistani athletes on the
international stage. The 1960s and 1970s were golden years, with Pakistan
winning 9 medals in 1962 Perth, 9 in 1966 Kingston, and 10 in 1970 Edinburgh,
demonstrating dominance especially in wrestling, weightlifting, and field
hockey.
There were periods of absence as well, including 1974
Christchurch, 1978 Edmonton, and 1982 Brisbane, when Pakistan did not
participate. However, the return to competition brought renewed success.
Notable performances included 8 medals in Manchester 2002, 5 medals in
Melbourne 2006, and 5 in New Delhi 2010.
In recent years, Pakistan continued to leave its mark,
winning 4 medals in Glasgow 2014 and 5 in Gold Coast 2018. Overall, Pakistan
has claimed a total of 75 Commonwealth Games medals: 25 gold, 24 silver, and 26
bronze.
These medals are a testament to Pakistan’s enduring spirit,
determination, and the talent of its athletes, who have carried the nation’s
pride across continents and decades. Each medal reflects a story of dedication,
resilience, and the pursuit of excellence.
