Islamabad: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has temporarily
suspended the President of the Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP), Hanif
Qureshi, Finance Secretary Raja Gauhar Iqbal, and General Secretary Omar Khan.
The suspension will remain in effect until the completion of a full financial
audit by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP). Meanwhile, all bank accounts of
the CFP have been frozen.
According to the PSB, the action comes in response to
allegations of financial irregularities, constitutional violations, and
unauthorized withdrawals of funds, made by both parties against each other.
Raja Gauhar Iqbal claimed his suspension was
unconstitutional, as it was issued without proper consultation with the General
Body, which is mandatory under the CFP constitution. The President of CFP,
Hanif Qureshi, alleged that Raja Gauhar Iqbal misused funds and facilitated the
issuance of fake NOCs for international chess events.
The PSB has directed that an impartial officer or PSB
representative be appointed to manage the essential administrative and
financial responsibilities of the federation to ensure that the sport of chess
does not suffer during the audit process.
The PSB emphasized that all financial transactions must be
properly documented in writing or through official records; no approvals via
phone, WhatsApp, or verbal instructions will be accepted. A final decision on
the allegations will be made after the audit is completed.
