An official communication issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department has revealed that a letter related to Rs 40.62 million for land acquisition in Shangla was fake and was never issued by the department.

According to the Finance Department’s letter dated January 30, 2024, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Shangla, a document came to the department’s notice claiming approval or a refund voucher for the acquisition of land for a Tehsil Playground in the Lilownai area of Alpuri. After reviewing departmental records, it was confirmed that the letter was neither signed nor issued by the Finance Department.

The document further points out that an unknown source attempted to influence the office of the Deputy Commissioner Shangla through this forged letter. The Finance Department has clearly instructed that no action should be taken in this matter.

As per the official record, the case involved a substantial amount of public money and was presented as part of a public development project. However, it later became evident that a fake document was prepared using the name and reference of a government department.

This incident not only highlights weaknesses within the financial and administrative system but also raises serious questions about how such forged letters reach government offices and what kind of decisions they may influence if not detected in time.

While the Finance Department has clarified its position by declaring the letter fake, the document itself indicates the need for a thorough inquiry to determine who prepared the forged letter, for what purpose it was used, and whether similar attempts are being made in other districts.

The case once again serves as a reminder that without transparency and strict oversight in land acquisition and development projects, the misuse of public resources becomes easier.

It is worth noting that the Provincial Inspection Team is currently conducting inquiries into various development and sports-related facilities across the province. This case could provide important input and context for the ongoing inspection process.
