Bannu – According to Anwar Kamal, Regional
Sports Officer (RSO) Bannu, training camps for all sports in preparation for
the Under-21 Games are currently underway. Most of these camps have been in
session for one week to ten days.
Anwar Kamal stated that international coaches
have been invited to Bannu for various sports and are currently present in the
city, actively assisting athletes in their preparation. Some athletes have also
been sent to other districts. He noted that certain sports associations have
not allowed their athletes to attend the camps, despite the training
arrangements being provided locally.
For the Regional Games, RSO Bannu confirmed
that camps have been organized for hockey, judo, karate, volleyball,
basketball, throwball, handball, athletics, football, futsal, tagball,
taekwondo, archery, and squash. He emphasized that special attention is being
given to improving both the fitness and technical skills of the athletes.
Anwar Kamal also highlighted that Bannu ranks
lowest in the province in terms of sports performance. In the previous Under-21
Games, Bannu secured the seventh position, but this time efforts are underway
to improve results. “We are making every possible effort; that’s my job,” he
said, adding that security in Bannu is strict, but he is doing everything
possible to ensure sports activities continue. He also warned that athletes who
do not participate in the camps will not be allowed to compete in the regional
competitions.
