Four-Day Sports Festival for Orphan and Underprivileged Children Kicks Off in Peshawar

A four-day sports festival for orphan and underprivileged
children has formally begun at the Model Institute for State Children “Zamung
Kor” on Charsadda Road, Peshawar, under the auspices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Sports Department. The festival features a range of sports competitions and
recreational activities aimed at providing healthy entertainment while
identifying and encouraging young talent.
The opening ceremony was attended by Advisor for Sports and
Youth Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Taj Muhammad Tarand as the chief guest.
Secretary Sports KP Muhammad Asif Khan, Director General Sports Tashfeen
Haider, Director Zamung Kor Sadaqat Ullah, Deputy Director Riaz Khan,
Additional DG Sports Rashida Ghaznavi, Director Operations Jamshed Baloch, and
other senior officials were also present.
During the ceremony, children from Zamung Kor presented
impressive martial arts demonstrations and a traditional Attan dance, which
received warm appreciation from the audience and added energy to the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Taj Muhammad Tarand said that
seeing smiles and confidence on the faces of the children was truly
encouraging. He emphasized that these children are the responsibility of the
state and that the provincial government is fully committed to their welfare.
He added that special focus is being placed on providing them with
opportunities that support both personal growth and social inclusion.
He noted that sports and positive activities play a vital
role in the physical and mental development of children. According to him,
there is no shortage of talent among these children; what they need are
platforms and encouragement. He stressed that the core objective of organizing
such sports festivals is not only recreation but also the discovery and
promotion of hidden talent.
The Advisor for Sports further shared that the provincial
government plans to organize Inter-Madrassa Games, Minority Games, Under-21
Games, and Transgender Games in the future to ensure equal representation and
participation for all segments of society.
On the occasion, the Secretary Sports KP and the Director of
Zamung Kor also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of paying
special attention to orphan and underprivileged children. They stated that
these children are an integral part of society and deserve equal opportunities
in sports, education, and other developmental activities.
More than 500 boys and girls from Zamung Kor Peshawar,
Zamung Kor Abbottabad, Swat Campus, Dera Ismail Khan Campus, Akhpal Kor Swat,
SOS Children’s Villages, and other orphan care institutions are participating
in the four-day festival. Competitions are being held in cricket, football,
badminton, kabaddi, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, athletics, and musical
chairs.
