Tangi Sports Complex: Funds Released Four Years Ago, Yet the Ground Remains a Decade-Long Failure

Tangi, Charsadda — The construction of the Tangi Sports Complex began nearly a decade ago, yet the facility remains utterly incomplete and nonfunctional. What makes this failure an administrative scandal is the revelation that the final development funds were formally released in the fiscal year 2020–21. Four years have passed since the funds were dispersed, and yet there is still no visible progress—not even the commencement of basic remaining work.

The Missing Millions: Funds Released in 2020–21

The PC-1 was approved, and the administration had full authority to complete the project. The released funds, intended to finish the complex, included:

Component

Released Amount (PKR)

Development Work (Remaining)

4,229,000

Water Supply System

1,420,000

Internal Electrification

73,000

Total Funds Released

5,722,000

Despite over PKR 5.7 million being released, not a single step toward completion has been taken. No meaningful explanation has been provided, reflecting clear administrative negligence and raising serious concerns about the misuse and misappropriation of public funds.

The Sports Department’s repeated defense is a transparent deflection: “The work is still with the contractor. We have not received handover.”

This statement is now a convenient, four-year-old shield. If the work has been held by a contractor since 2020-21, the critical questions are:

  • Who was responsible for monitoring progress, enforcing timelines, and ensuring compliance?
  • Why was the contractor never held accountable, penalized, or replaced?
  • How were funds released without a single visible sign of work completion?

The release of public money without any visible output puts the entire administrative process under suspicion.

Adding insult to injury, the District Sports Officer (DSO) routinely demands match fees from young local players. This fee is collected for a sports complex that offers:

  • No water supply.
  • No electricity.
  • No furnishing or basic facilities.

The Tangi Sports Complex is abandoned, yet it is seemingly functional on paper, as yearly budgets continue to be allocated in its name.

The public has every right to ask: Where does the annual operating and maintenance budget for the Tangi Sports Complex go? This is public money, and the community demands full transparency.

Local elders and sports representatives are demanding immediate intervention from top authorities, including the Minister for Sports, the DG Sports, the local MPA, and the Tehsil Chairman.

They require:

  1. Immediate Completion: Contact the contractor and enforce the completion of all pending work within a fixed, non-negotiable deadline.
  2. Forensic Investigation: Conduct a thorough, independent investigation into the 2020–21 released funds to determine where the money went and why zero work commenced.
  3. Full Audit: Publicly audit all annual budgets allocated to the Tangi Sports Complex from the date of the 2020-21 fund release to present.
  4. Accountability: Take strict disciplinary action against all administrative and departmental officials responsible for this decade-long delay and negligence.

The Tangi Sports Complex was meant to be a catalyst for youth development. Instead, it has become a damning symbol of administrative indifference and the systemic mismanagement of public funds. It is time to demand answers and ensure this long-delayed project is finally delivered to the community.
