Peshawar witnessed an unusual incident yesterday when squash player Bilal had his bicycle stolen. The incident comes just three days after the Directorate issued a notice tightening security measures, citing a potential threat. As a result, officials were instructed to closely monitor the entry of all vehicles and motorcycles at the gate.

Following the orders, Bilal, who is also a student of City Number One, parked his bicycle outside the gate as directed before heading to practice. However, when he returned, he discovered that not only his bicycle but another one had also gone missing. Bilal shared that he had bought the bicycle three weeks ago for thirty thousand rupees, using it to travel to school and the sports ground.

Bilal and his brother immediately visited the office of the Director General of Sports to report the theft. The administrator showed them CCTV footage, clearly showing the bicycles being stolen right outside the gate. Employees stated that they had only been given orders to keep everyone outside and that what happened beyond the gate was beyond their control.

The security measures, though intended to protect, inadvertently created confusion and risks for athletes and visitors. Experts suggest that better planning could have ensured a secure system for parking players’ bicycles, preventing theft or damage.

This incident highlights how administrative and security policies, while aiming to maintain safety, can sometimes inconvenience citizens, especially young athletes, turning well-intended rules into practical challenges.
