On the promotion of sports, Nowshera’s DSO received an amount of 9.1 million PKR in 2023-24 and 12.7 million PKR in 2024-25. Despite this increase, little progress is witnessed in the actual development of players.

Asked about the number of trained athletes, the DSO forwarded the queries to the various local sports associations and did not give the exact figures. Curiously, it conducted 38 tournaments in 2023-24 but only 28 in 2024-25, despite the increased budget. This downtrend raises questions about planning and resource utilization.

The office is staffed with about 38 permanent staff, although the exact number cannot be confirmed because records are lacking. The DSO keeps records of only football and volleyball registrations; other sports are not recorded in their books. Information regarding locations of tournaments and number of participants was not available.

Critics further lament that even with increased funds, there is no transparency and accountability. The delayed information from DSO Nowshera further heightens inefficiencies, leaving athletes and the community without clear evidence of visible progress.
