The Silent Office and the Cost of Transparency: RTI Complaint 13132 Shakes Kohat Sports

Peshawar/Kohat — In spite of the sky-high claims of upholding sports in all parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the District Sports Office (DSO) Kohat is going great guns in the field of lack of transparency. Information regarding the salary, non-salary, and sports-specific grants released in the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25, which were legally applied for under the Right to Information (RTI) Act in May 2025, has not been made available as yet.

Absolute silence for five months pushed the issue to a point. Today, October 28, 2025, a journalist lodged Complaint Number 13132 formally with the RTI Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is irrefutable proof that departmental stonewalling has moved from a simple inquiry to a complaint.

The initial request asked for overall information for the two years of finance, such as: breakdown of salary and non-salary budgets; the precise account of funds spent and utilized on sports; list and phone numbers of Kohat players who have played for the district at the national and international levels; and overall records of tournaments, such as the number of participants, and the total account of TA/DA (Travel Allowance/Daily Allowance) and other expenses.

But neither a written response nor an explanation was given by the DSO Kohat. The question is then important: if the data is not available or prepared, then on what grounds are the spending of public funds being reported?

Complaint 13132 to the RTI Commission is a turning point of significance. If the Commission acts seriously on this case, it will establish a strong precedent for other district offices suffering from the same lack of accountability.

The Right to Information Act is a public constitutional right. But when government offices respond to the law with such contempt, the whole principle of accountability remains an empty promise. All eyes are now on the RTI Commission to see when it will take action against this complaint and when the concealed information about the DSO Kohat's funds, tournaments, and players will come to light at last.

This is not merely a request; it is a test of honesty in the overall sports establishment.
