Suspicious Appointments in KPK Sports Directorate and the Silence of the DG: A Critical Review
Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator
Over the past four to five years, appointments in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
(KPK) Sports Directorate from BPS-3 to BPS-16 have raised serious questions.
These appointments were not limited to Peshawar, Kohat, Charsadda, Dera Ismail
Khan, Swabi, and Mardan but also extended to the merged districts, where a lack
of infrastructure and limited resources already create challenges. These
appointments have fueled concerns about irregularities, lack of transparency,
and fear within the department, threatening both its performance and public
trust.
The Directorate’s internal committee has
clearly recommended that a high-powered provincial inspection team be formed
immediately to conduct a detailed review of the original appointment records.
The purpose is to ensure that every appointment was made according to rules and
regulations and to uncover any irregularities or unlawful interventions.
Surprisingly, the Director General (DG) of Sports KPK has neither provided any
explanation nor taken practical steps. This silence has created an atmosphere
of fear, uncertainty, and suspicion throughout the department.
Staff members are now questioning whether
these appointments were genuinely based on merit or influenced by political
pressure and personal recommendations. This concern is not limited to internal
employees; it is also damaging the Directorate’s public image. The DG’s
inaction is making employees anxious about their own positions, fearing they
could also become victims of questionable appointments.
Appointments in the merged districts are an
even greater concern. Due to limited infrastructure, scarce resources, and a
shortage of trained staff, these areas already face obstacles in promoting
sports. If appointments in these regions were made without transparency, it
could further restrict opportunities for youth and result in misuse of the
Directorate’s resources. This would directly impact the department’s
performance and the encouragement of young athletes.
Moreover, these questionable appointments have
implications for the Directorate’s internal policies and administrative
structure. When staff appointments are irregular, trust within the organization
declines, and departmental decisions become questionable. This situation poses
a serious risk to sports development, youth engagement, and the overall growth
of the sector in the province.
The DG’s silence is not only affecting
internal operations but also harming the Directorate’s external credibility.
Employees and stakeholders are questioning whether the DG’s inaction is a sign
of bias toward internal irregularities or a reflection of indifference. This
inaction is alarming for accountability and transparency within the department.
The situation also highlights possible
political influence and misuse of authority. According to several employees,
some appointments appear to have been made purely based on recommendations,
influence, and personal interests, undermining the principles of merit and
fairness. This indicates a systemic lack of transparency and accountability,
and it is the responsibility of senior officials to address the issue immediately.
Ignoring or delaying the committee’s
recommendations is effectively a violation of administrative responsibility.
Staff and stakeholders are now questioning whether the DG can remain impartial
in this matter or whether political and personal interests are guiding the
silence. This inaction threatens the department’s standards, transparency, and
public trust.
The absence of accountability and transparency
directly impacts departmental performance, sports development, and
opportunities for youth. If the DG does not take prompt action, the
consequences will affect not only internal operations but also public
perception, trust, and credibility.
It is now crucial to form an independent,
high-powered inspection team to review the original records and expose every
questionable appointment. Without this step, internal anxiety will continue to
grow, and the Directorate’s reputation could suffer irreparably.
It is also evident that without transparency
and accountability, the department’s operations are merely for show. Employees
and the public have the right to know whether appointments were made on merit
and according to rules. Failure to act promptly will threaten not only the
Directorate’s performance but also youth engagement, sports development programs,
and future opportunities for athletes.
Exposing irregularities is not merely an
internal necessity; it is critical for the future of youth, athletes, and the
department itself. Without prompt and effective action, the Directorate’s
credibility, public trust, and the growth of sports in KPK are all at risk.
Suspicious appointments in the KPK Sports
Directorate, coupled with the DG’s silence, pose a serious challenge to the
department. Transparency, accountability, and strong oversight are essential to
protect both the Directorate’s reputation and sports development. High-level
action, independent investigation, and thorough verification of records are now
unavoidable. Employees, stakeholders, and the public expect the DG to break the
silence and act with transparency.
