The Bannu 'Dogs FC': When Vacant Offices Turn Sports Complexes into Dog Parks

The Bannu Sports Complex, meant to be a hub of athletic excellence, has become an embarrassing symbol of official neglect. The latest footage, which has since gone viral, captures the absurdity: a pack of stray dogs leisurely roaming and playing on the pristine football field during what were slated to be national-level matches.

It's a scene that is both comical and deeply tragic, perfectly illustrating the collapse of sports governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The root of this spectacle is not the animals, but the absent human officials. The Regional Sports Office (RSO) Bannu has been completely deserted for over a month.

The Directorate of Sports recently restructured its management, replacing the local District Sports Officers (DSOs) with the powerful Regional Sports Officers (RSOs). This structure concentrates all authority into a single post. When that key post remains vacant, the entire athletic ecosystem in the region simply grinds to a halt.

Sources within the Directorate suggest the newly appointed RSO has been unable to assume charge due to a prolonged absence citing "domestic issues" and a "medical operation." However, this explanation has now stretched into weeks, transforming a temporary inconvenience into a stunning display of administrative indifference. Officials continue to draw salaries and enjoy perks, while the sports infrastructure they manage crumbles.

The negligence is particularly striking because both the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the relevant provincial minister hail from the very same district. Despite their influence and proximity, no one seems concerned that the Bannu office is dysfunctional.

Local sports associations and passionate athletes have made repeated, desperate demands for a responsible officer to be appointed, but their calls have been met with total silence.

The image of dogs occupying the field during official matches is not just a lapse in security—it is a powerful visual metaphor. It shows that when human management sleeps, nature fills the vacuum.

The dogs, by default, have become the complex's unintentional "District Football Controllers." Until the provincial Directorate takes swift, decisive action, the only team guaranteed to use the Bannu field will be the newly formed, tail-wagging 'Bannu Dogs FC.'
