Peshawar is preparing to launch a grand
sports festival for schools to be held from October 24, which will be a great
display of upcoming sporting stars from all over the district. Students from various
schools will be participating in a wide variety of sports activities, such as
cricket, football, volleyball, table tennis, and running track and field
events.
To oversee the enormous task, the most
important appointments have been made. Government Higher Secondary School
Nanakpura's Principal Naveed Akhtar has been appointed as Secretary, with
Khursheed Iqbal as Deputy General Secretary for the events. The organizing
committee has already started making arrangements at major venues such as the
Peshawar Sports Complex and the Peshawar Board grounds.
But the organizers encountered an early
setback. They recently tried to arrange access to Islamia College grounds but
were regrettably refused a meeting with the college administration after three
attempts. Deputy General Secretary Khursheed Iqbal reiterated the key
significance of appropriate facilities, asserting that these competitions are
intended to "spot and nurture talent from the nursery level." The
organizers are all set and determined to conduct the events on appropriate
grounds for the young hopeful sportspeople.
This is just a part of a greater plan:
the contests at the district level will be succeeded by regional competition,
which will eventually lead to provincial championships. This multi-level system
will create a vital arena for Peshawar's young sports heroes to really shine.
