Swat Hockey Turf Buried in Neglect Following Floods

The Swat hockey turf, which cost millions to construct, now rests under four feet of debris and mud following the recent floods. In spite of the destruction, the district administration hasn't paid a visit to the place yet and the facility remains in shambles.
Volunteers are clearing thick layers of mud using shovels, but the turf has been ruined beyond recognition. The synthetic ground that was once touted as a symbol of sports development in Swat now resembles more of a swamp than a hockey field.
This is not the first instance nature has hit. In 2022, the same ground was severely affected by floods. At that time, officials hastened to restore it. But now, there is only silence and inaction. The absence of planning and disaster management has revealed the authorities' negligence.
Though millions were expended on its creation, no adequate protection or maintenance plan was ever implemented. Its repeated demolition is indicative of the general crisis of sports facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where funds pour in to cut the ribbon but fail at the first challenge of nature.
If nothing is done in time, Swat will lose one of its few sports facilities in the modern era, and the players who once used to dream of excelling on this ground will be left with nothing but mud and unkept promises.
