In Pakistani domestic cricket, the name Nisar Afridi stands out for his exceptional batting success, but the sad fact remains that his cricket career has been time and again ignored. Despite all his phenomenal successes, Nisar has not been picked on a consistent basis, whereas other players who have never achieved a century in domestic cricket or have been persistent failures, are still finding themselves picked for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and even the national side.

Nisar Afridi’s record in domestic cricket is unparalleled. In the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) National Under-19 and Grade-2 competitions, he scored multiple double centuries. On one occasion, he made a double century in the first innings, and then followed it up with an unbeaten 155 in the second innings, completing a remarkable feat in cricket. Another of his notable accomplishments was when Nisar made a double century at the tea break in a Grade-2 match, establishing a new record.

But for all these remarkable feats, Nisar has not been able to secure spots at the higher level. Other players who have neither made a single century in domestic cricket nor performed consistently, let alone meeting expectations, still manage to make it to PSL teams and the national team.

Nisar has played for numerous departments such as Pakistan Railways, CDA, and KRL, where he showcased his talents and worked effectively with his teams. However, his success is a cause of concern as it questions the transparency and merit of Pakistan's talent finding system. Is it really the case that diligent players like Nisar are being neglected while others, who are not performing at a high level consistently, keep getting to the top?

 

Nisar Afridi’s story is both an inspiring example and a frustrating reminder for young cricketers. It shows that hard work and excellent records should ideally open doors, but unfortunately, in the world of cricket, this is not always the case.
