DG Sports Makes Big Move: Officers Living Free in Hostel for Years Directed to Pay Up

The incumbent Director General of Sports has taken a big move by announcing that no officer or person will be entitled to live in the Sports Directorate hostel without paying.

Some officials had been living in the hostel for years without even paying a rupee, and they were not just getting free lodging but also VIP-like facilities of electricity and gas. The issue had remained under total secrecy for years. Astonishingly, even an FIA constable had been living in a room for years, keeping it locked, yet never paying anything.

The DG, as per sources, has now given a strict instruction that whoever is staying at the hostel, be it from the department or outside, has to pay 50,000 rupees per month. But some of the powerful people are not accepting this and are still demanding free stay. Some are attempting to utilize political relationships in order to not pay, and a few are requesting to remain for just 10,000 rupees a month — even though their accommodation is of VIP quality.

Curiously, regular rooms in the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) cost only 2,000 rupees a month, but no one opts for them because the administration there has strict rules. Contrasting that, the Sports Directorate hostel has been operating wild for years.

Now that the DG Sports has complained, the question is: who will make these orders count, and will the long-standing "free culture" finally end?
