Dated Curriculum, Nepotism, and Transparency Issues in PCB Coach Education Department

Lahore (Sports Desk) — The operation of the PCB Coach Education Department has raised serious issues, with experts stating that it is the strength of Pakistan's cricket future but is disabled by mismanagement and bias.

Sources indicated that the Level 1 and Level 2 coaching syllabuses still use content from 2004 without any revision to suit the needs of the contemporary game. The department itself is managed by just two officials and a clerk, with no system of checks and balances in place.

The recruitment procedure of coaching courses has also been brought under doubt. Certificates are usually granted under the influence of Regional Presidents and not on merit, bypassing capable and deserving coaches. This culture of personal gain and favoritism has eroded the trustworthiness of the system.

Cricket circles aver that this is not just an instance of mismanagement but a grave danger to Pakistan cricket's future as well. If there is no professional, transparent, and vibrant coach education system in the country, it will go on struggling to produce cricketers of world caliber.

Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium Turf in Poor Condition Despite 10-Year Warranty — Questions Raised Through RTI

The poor condition of turf in Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium has questioned seriously the mismanagement in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate. The turf, which was installed at a cost of millions with a ten-year warranty, is now in a poor condition just a few years after installation.

On July 18, investigative sports reporter Musarrat Ullah Jan filed a Right to Information (RTI) application before the KP Sports Directorate, which was formally registered against complaint number 12898. The request contained very important questions, such as:

Detailed spending record on turf repair and upkeep, including invoices, work orders, and contractors/companies involved.

Complaints that machines are being operated by filling them with bottled water on a daily basis — and whether an inquiry or action has ever been initiated on this practice.

Whether ex-DG Sports Khalid Khan was issued a dissenting note on this project, and if issued, what happened to it.

On what terms and conditions the stadium was transferred to the provincial Sports Directorate and by whom the transfer was approved?

Where the grills and fountains taken out of the stadium are placed, and to whom?

Players gripe that the ruined turf has gone terribly wrong with their training sessions and games, giving hockey in the province another blow.

With misuse of funds and ghost projects already being questioned in cricket and football, the hockey episode brings to the fore yet another instance of poor planning and potential corruption.

Sports circles call for an independent investigation, accountability of the officials, and stern action against those guilty of wasting millions at the expense of the hockey players' future.
