In a shocking development, the Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is surrounded by a controversy as an electrician who was first appointed under the "1000 Sports Facilities Project" was purportedly given the job of Store Keeper without any official advertisement or proper procedure. This action has raised serious allegations of nepotism, abuse of authority, and flagrant violation of merit.

The alarm was sounded when a citizen had filed a formal Right to Information (RTI) application on July 14, 2025, requesting a complete record from the concerned department to find out the truth regarding the appointment. The RTI clearly asks for explanation about many key points:

Whether an official notification was made for the Store Keeper position and, if so, its copy.

Details of the educational qualification, technical training (diploma or electrical experience), and test/interview result of the appointed person.

Designation and names of the officers who arranged the test and interview.

Attendance record of the person from 2022 till date.

Proof in support of the appointment of the electrician as Store Keeper.

If no advertisement was made for the post of Store Keeper, on what legal basis was the new designation given?

Whether the person appointed meets the educational and technical requirements for a Store Keeper, in full particulars.

The citizen goes on to accuse the concerned person of not only being unfit for electrical work but also that the person is apparently a close relative of one of the high officials, giving rise to serious issues of transparency and meritocracy.

Not only has this incident tarnished the internal recruitment process of the Sports Directorate, but also highlighted a larger question of how key jobs are reportedly being handed out based on nepotism and not merit. The citizen warned that in case the department is not able to provide the information within 10 days, a complaint would be lodged with the Information Commission and other legal forums in the next step.

This unfolding report emphasizes the need for urgency in accountability and transparency in public institutions so that public money isn't squandered and merit rules all appointments.
