RTI Still Pending: Details of Sports Projects, Hostel Construction, and Merged Districts Remain Hidden
Peshawar – The veil of secrecy remains firmly in place over major construction and spending projects linked to the Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A Right to Information (RTI) request filed months ago by a concerned citizen—during the tenure of former Director General Sports Abdul Nasir Khan—has yet to receive a response. The request sought crucial details regarding infrastructure and financial matters in women’s hostels, sports initiatives, and merged districts (formerly FATA), but officials have remained silent.
The RTI application asked for transparency on the following
key issues:
Details of rooms built in the women's hostel, including
information on the contractor who carried out the construction. Notably, some
rooms were reportedly designated for the Director of Operations.
Information about construction projects in the merged districts,
including the nature of the work, the total expenditure involved, and the names
of the contractors.
A transparent breakdown of expenses on the 1,000 sports
development projects launched under the government’s initiative.
Information about where advertisements were placed, the
media houses involved, and how much money was paid to each.
Clarification on how much work was actually completed by the
contractors, and who supervised or monitored that work.
Unfortunately, despite the public importance of these
matters, no response has been provided to date. There is neither any
explanation nor any written justification for the delay. This delay stands in
sharp contrast to the provincial government's loud claims of transparency and
good governance.
Sources suggest that either the concerned files are being
deliberately stalled, or there is an attempt to conceal sensitive information.
If everything is clean and above board, the question arises: why is there
hesitation in sharing the information?
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission and the
Provincial RTI Commission must take urgent notice of this undue delay. The
citizen’s right to information is a constitutional right, not a favor. If
billions have been spent from the public exchequer, accountability is a
necessity—not an option.
📢 If you or someone you
know has also filed an RTI that remains unanswered, reach out to Kikxnow.
Together, we can demand transparency.
