KP Sports Directorate Remains Mum Two Months Since RTI Application regarding Fuel and Fleet Control

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate General of Sports has not
responded to an RTI application filed on March 13, 2025, which is causing
serious questions regarding transparency of the department's fuel and fleet
management system.
The official appeal, which had been made pursuant to the
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act, 2013, had prayed for access to
records pertaining to Office Order No. DG/Sports/Admin/2023-24/1328-31, issued
on November 1, 2023. The subject order pertained to the delegation of control
over fleet and fuel management to the Director Development.
It is mandatory, according to Section 14 of the RTI Act, for
public agencies to reply within 10 working days. But it has now already been
two months with no response, no documents furnished, and no reasons given. Even
a reminder in writing was dispatched — but that also has been turned a blind
eye to.
The candidate, an experienced investigative reporter,
claimed that this is not a solitary incident. "There is a pattern of
withholding core administrative information — primarily when it's expenditure,
usage of vehicles, or transferring resources. The public is entitled to know
what is being done with taxpayer funds."
He further claimed that silence for so long could indicate
mismanagement or deliberate hiding of important decisions about running the
departments.

Call for Accountability and Legal Compliance
RTI specialists and civil society actors are now calling for
immediate attention of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa RTI Commission and for the
Directorate to abide by the law.
The further delay is not only against the RTI Act, but it
also brings into question the management of resources — including fuel and
vehicles — available in the sports department. If no action is initiated, the
issue will be taken to higher levels.
